Territory is a massive Australian epic set in the outback, which was released on Netflix worldwide in late October 2024. In the lead role of Emily Lawson, Anna Torv was joined by Philippa Northeast, Michael Dorman, Sam Corlett, and Robert Taylor. Ben Davies and Timothy Lee developed the show, which was produced by Ronde Media and Easy Tiger Productions. Both critics and viewers gave it favorable reviews, but can we expect more? Here’s everything we know so far.
Will Territory Return With Season 2?
The cast and crew were informed a few months ago that the show would not be returning, despite the fact that it was set for a season 2 comeback, according to C21 Media. They point out that scheduling-related issues might have contributed to the show’s cancellation.
Netflix’s director of content for Australia and New Zealand, Que Min Luu, issued the following comment regarding the show’s cancellation, which is unusual for the streaming service: “We are incredibly thankful to have had the chance to work with the wonderful cast and production team to bring Territory and the stunning Australian outback into the homes of millions around the world. Although we won’t be continuing with another season, we eagerly anticipate working with all of them again in the future.”
We should also mention that the show received very little coverage outside of Australia, primarily as a result of Netflix’s more general show promotion strategy. Most outlets were not given very broad access to the show, except from TUDUM posting about it. It’s debatable if this matters much in the long run, but it’s never a terrible thing to let others advertise your event.
Given that the series didn’t place very well in the top 10, its viewership probably fell short of Netflix officials’ expectations. With 87.10 million viewing hours, or about 15 million views, the series only made it into the top 10 worldwide for three weeks. Australia and New Zealand were the top performers over the six-week run, and the show was included in the weekly top 10s of 75 nations.
In order to attract viewers through 2025 and beyond, Netflix Australia is working on other significant projects. The Survivors, Son of a Donkey, and the recently released Apple Cider Vinegar are a few of their major projects this year. It was revealed that Surviving Summer, another Australian program, would not be getting a third season.
