'Ted Lasso' Season 2 chronicle's AFC Richmond's struggle to get back to the Premier League.
The Apple TV+ Sports comedy series follows Ted Lasso, an American college football coach who gets hired to coach an English soccer team in an attempt by its owner to spite her ex-husband.
What initially started as a mere tactic to get back at her ex-husband became a vital journey as the inexperienced coach tried his best to bring his team to victory.
In the first season, the team gets relegated to the Championship League. However, Ted and his team are determined to earn their spot back in the Premier League, the highest league in English football. Did they manage to get their spot back?
Season 2 begins with AFC Richmond starting the new season after getting assigned to the Championship League due to a series of unfortunate losses in season 1. Jamie Tartt is back with his old team after his short stint with Manchester City abruptly ends.
Meanwhile, Roy Kent explores a career as a sports commentator but fails to get in the middle of the action. Tired of his stuffy team, he walks out and joins AFC Richmond as a coach.
Nate gets threatened with Roy Kent's arrival. Nate continues to suffer from low self-esteem as he remains the juniormost coach. The team gets new funding from a dating app called Bantr. Through the app, Sam and Rebecca anonymously fall in love.
However, Sam gets a generous offer from a wealthy football enthusiast from Ghana. If he accepts, he will have to say goodbye to AFC Richmond and Rebecca.
In the final episode, Sam eventually chooses to stay with his current football team. Before their last match, Ted gets surprised when a news story reveals that he had a panic attack during his team matches. The reporter reveals that Nate is the source of the information. During the final match, Nate continues to exude negativity. In his final face-off with Ted, Nate calls Ted a fraud.
After a very close fight, AFC Richmond managed to bag the victory. The team celebrates, but Ted noticed that someone has torn up his “BELIEVE” poster. In a press conference following the match, he opens up about his panic attacks and stresses the importance of starting a discussion on mental health in sports.
Roy Kent plans a six-week vacation for him and Keeley to celebrate the victory. Sadly, she only tells him to go alone since she is busy. The season ended with Nate overseeing a football practice together with Rupert, Rebecca's former husband.
So, first things first, what is the fate of AFC Richmond? Despite not winning their final match of the season against Brentford, the team manages to tie the game after a nail-biter of a penalty kick by Dani Rojas. A tie is all that’s needed for AFC Richmond to garner enough points to be promoted to the Premier League. Therefore, after spending a season relegated to the Championship League, our favorite team is back in the highest league in English football.
After selling out Nate's panic attacks to the press, we finally saw the extent of his hatred towards Ted. He accuses the head coach of being a fraud. Nate has plenty of complaints against Ted. He is mad that he built up his confidence only to completely sideline him.
Nate also thinks that Ted is blaming him for the team's poor performance. Aside from that, Nate claims that he earned his position, while Ted was just handed the job.
Of course, his claims are a result of his insecurities. His lack of authority frustrates Nate, and he is blaming Ted for this.
After AFC Richmond gets their spot back in the Premier League, Nate is not happy. He is most likely the person who destroyed Ted's “BELIEVE poster. In the end, he leaves AFC Richmond to train Westham.
He is now working with Rebecca’s scheming ex-husband, Rupert, who recently bought Westham. It looks like Nate and Ted will eventually face each other in an intense war on the football field.
A billionaire from Ghana gives Sam a generous offer to establish an African football league. The billionaire is even willing to pay AFC Richmond a huge amount to release Sam from his contract. In the end, Sam decides to stay with the club and turns down a lifetime offer.
Sam's decision also hints that he is determined to rekindle his relationship with Rebecca. Thanks to the app, the two found out how much they have in common. Their appearances and Rebeccas's fear of commitment have pushed them apart, but they might try to fight for the love in the next season.
Rebecca does now want Sam to lose a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Although she tries to hide it, she still cares for him deeply. So far, only Keeley knows about Sam and Rebecca's secret relationship. However, Ted will likely uncover their secret after witnessing an awkward conversation between them.
Roy Kent and Keeley Jones' relationship is on the rocks. Roy was very excited to invite Keeley on a vacation to celebrate AFC Richmond's win.
However, Keeley declines and tells him to go alone. Her response was a clear indication that something was up. Roy and Keeley initially seemed like the perfect couple. However, their differences are slowly starting to surface.
Keeley feels like Roy is not giving her enough space. Now that she has an offer to start her PR agency, it seems like Keeley will have a different set of priorities, and Roy is no longer at the top of the list. Keeley might end up focusing all her efforts and energy on building her empire, and to do that, she might choose to say goodbye to Roy.
