Netflix's Sweet Magnolias was just released a few weeks ago but people are actively campaigning for season 2 already. Find out what's currently in store for Maddie, Dana, and Helen's friendship.
'Sweet Magnolias' was released on Netflix less than a month ago and has managed to capture the hearts of women whose personal stories deeply resonate with each character.
Based on Sherryl Woods' novel of the same title, 'Sweet Magnolias' follows the story of three women whose friendship stood the test of time. Now navigating through the complex adult life, the trio concludes it's time for a new beginning and started a spa business from scratch.
The first season ended with a cliffhanger leaving fans with one obvious question: Can we expect season 2?
Here's what we know so far.
As of this writing, there is still no confirmation regarding the renewal of Sweet Magnolias. Of course, this is expected since it's been less than a month since the show landed on Netflix. The show premiered on May 19, 2020. While it's too early to talk about season 2, the Sweet Magnolias team has been actively campaigning for it.
In a twitter post, Sweet Magnolias Writers have shared a thread for fans containing instructions to help the show get a follow-up season.
Thank you for all the love for @SweetMagnolias! It's so much fun to see everyone sharing their favorite lines and characters. And those cliffhangers, huh? 👀 We don't have a Season 2 order from Netflix yet, but here's what you can do:— Sweet Magnolias Writers (@swtmagnoliaroom) May 25, 2020
The instructions include watching and rewatching the full ten episodes of the show (especially in the first 30 days) and talking about it on social media.
The thread has earned a significant amount of support from fans though. Whether the strategy works or not, we will know from Netflix's verdict for sure.
The first season ends with a cliffhanger giving season 2 a good point for a follow-up.
Towards the end, we saw Maddie's ex trying to win her heart back when they received a phone call. Their son, Kyle, was in a car crash and an unidentified person was with him. Who could that person be? Could that be his eldest son's baseball coach and her new love interest, Cal?
With Maddie's previous marriage ending in shambles, taking a chance on a new love would not be easy. We can expect to see Maddie go through more ordeal if she ever decides to open her heart up for Cal in the upcoming seasons.
Also, we are hoping to see more of Maddie's best friends Helen and Dana as the three of them work on The Corner Spa in Serenity, South Carolina. Each of them also has a personal crisis to conquer, hence, we're expecting more character developments on the three female protagonists in the future.
The show would of course not move forward without the three main characters. We're expecting to see JoAnna Garcia Swisher reprise her role as Maddie Townsend together with Heather Headley as Helen Decatur and Brooke Elliott as Dana Sue Sullivan.
Justin Bruening is also likely to come back as Cal Maddox, Maddie's love interest. We're also expecting to see Chris Klein as Bill Townsend (Maddie's ex-husband) as he and Maddie try to put a closure on their relationship.
Other characters we can expect to see are Logan Allen as Kyle Townsend (Maddie's younger son), Carson Rowland as Tyler "Ty" Townsend (Maddie's eldest son), and Anneliese Judge as Annie Sullivan (Dana's daughter) among others.
