Rumors are circulating that Supergirl is canceled as Warner Brother considers bringing Henry Cavill back as Superman.
Rumors are circulating that Warner Brothers are considering bringing Henry Cavill back as Superman, suggesting Supergirl may have to return her cape soon as the reboot movie might no longer happen.
Heroic Hollywood reported that an exclusive source of theirs said that the Supergirl movie is on hold until Warner Brothers figures out what to do with Superman in a post-Justice league setting.
In 2018, The Supergirl movie was announced starring Melissa Benoist and written by Oren Uziel, the same writer behind The Cloverfield: Paradox and 22 Jump Street.
Supergirl is reportedly a prequel to Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, a period piece set in the '70s with Brainiac as the villain.
The movie was supposed to start filming this year, however, plans did not push through and reports suggest that this is because Warner Brothers is looking at bringing Cavill back.
Reports say that Warner Brothers is listening to fans who are clamoring to bring Cavill back following the Superman cameo on Shazam!
The studio is also reportedly worried about the possible backlash if Cavill will be dumped as Kal-El, hence they are considering making him a leading figure in the DC Extended Universe again.
Looking back, Warner Brothers has faced a constant backlash from disappointed fans for Batman V Superman, Suicide Squad and Justice League. Looks like they can't afford another backlash if they announce that Cavill as Superman is officially over.
On the other hand, Cavill who has just recently celebrated his 37th birthday has expressed numerous times that he is not letting go of the Superman role so easily.
“The cape is in the closet, It’s still mine,” Cavill said in a 2019 interview with
In the interview, he added:
I’ve not given up the role. There’s a lot I have to give for Superman yet. A lot of storytelling to do. A lot of real, true depths to the honesty of the character I want to get into. I want to reflect the comic books. That’s important to me. There’s a lot of justice to be done for Superman. The status is: You’ll see.
Cavill is even clear with what story he wanted to adapt and named Superman: For Tomorrow by Brian Azzarello, Jim Lee, and Scott Williams in a separate live-stream in 2005.
Reports also suggest that Dwayne Johnson plays a huge role in bringing Cavill's red cape back. Cavill is under the management of Seven Bucks, a production company founded by Johnson and his ex-wife, Danny Garcia. The production includes producer credit on Shazam! and Black Adam.
For fans asking if he could still do a Superman sequel while on the Witcher, Cavill has told numerous outlets in the past that he could do two feature films or two projects in a year.
One thing's for sure, this is the best time for Cavill's fans to let Warner Brothers know how much they wanted to see the actor back in the blue suit again. Your outcries have more chances of getting heard at this moment. We're keeping our fingers crossed on this one.
