Although it seems like a lifetime ago, Supacell made its Netflix debut in late June 2024, almost a year ago. Originally, production was supposed to start in early 2025, but preparations have since failed. With production set for this fall (or autumn for non-Americans), the most recent production listing, provided by UK Casting News, confirms that we still have a long way to go.
The superhero drama series from Netflix UK, which was renewed a few months after its debut, led the global Netflix rankings, achieving 33.40 million views during its six weeks in the top 10 and 40.90 million views for the entire year 2024. Along with garnering excellent reviews, the show is one of 120 that the streamer is now giving a new season to.
When Will Supacell Season 2 Be Released?
Although the duration of production is unknown, a 2025 and possibly even a 2026 return for the show currently appears to be in jeopardy. In retrospect, season 1 was filmed from July to December 2022, and the show didn’t premiere until June 2024. Although we hope that season 2 won’t be quite so long in the future, the most optimistic date at this time seems to be late 2026, with 2027 most likely.
Rapman last gave us a public update on Supacell in November 2024, when he talked about the future of the show and said the scripts were almost finished. “What I can tell you is that Season 2 is crazy,” the creator of the show told Deadline, “The writers’ room is all done, this season is just crazy.”
Since the show has already set several production dates, this production update could change. Filming was originally scheduled to begin in Q1 2025, according to the initial production listing from late last year. However, this was later rescheduled for the summer, and now it is scheduled to begin in October 2025. The United Kingdom is once again the location of filming.
What Might Be Causing The Delay For Supacell Season 2?
Perhaps Rapman has a hectic schedule these days. Rapman has reportedly landed another new project at Netflix, in case you missed it. He has signed a new contract to work on the crime movie The Council, which stars Nicky Barnes, popularly known as Mr. Untouchable, as the leader of a crime syndicate that operated in Harlem, New York City, in the 1970s and 1980s.
