‘Suburra: Blood on Rome’ Season 4: Everything We Know So Far

Suburra: Blood on Rome or Suburra – La Serie is an Italian Netflix crime drama series set in Rome. It is based on the 2015 film Suburra, which was, in turn, inspired by the novel of the same name by Giancarlo De Cataldo and Carlo Bonini. It was the first Italian-language original series for the streamer, which was developed by Daniele Cesarano and Barbara Petronio for Netflix.

The story follows the real-life events of the Mafia Capitale investigation. The series starts in 2008 when a fight over land in a seaside town near Rome spirals into a deadly battle between organized crime, corrupt politicians, and the Vatican. The series received critical acclaim and was compared to the likes of Narcos. Here’s what’s in store for the future of the show:

Will There Be Season 4 Of Suburra: Blood on Rome?

Renewal Status: Canceled

The first season of the show premiered worldwide on 6 October 2017. Before this, the first two episodes were screened at the 74th Venice Film Festival. It premiered on Italian TV networks only in 2019, just before the second season’s release, which was renewed in 2018. This was followed by another season that was renewed just a few months after the second season premiere. The third season was released on 30 October 2020. However, in 2019, it was announced that the third season would also be the show’s final season.

The third season started off after an explosive second season as the fight for land, money, and power intensified, leading Aureliano, Spadino, and Lele to conspire to seize control of Rome’s criminal underworld from Samurai. There was a tragic death and a surprise return of Manfredi Anacleti (Adamo Dionisi) in what was the biggest plot twist. In the third season, word of a yearlong celebration organized by the Vatican—and the vast revenue it will generate—sparks a renewed fight to rule the streets of Rome. A lot of things went down in the third season, which led fans to think that the show will probably continue its run. However, a lot of loose ends were also tied up with the season three finale.

Moreover, Netflix Italia even tweeted during the season premiere that the third one would be the last one. The tweet read: “On the throne of Rome there is room for only one king. #Suburra 3, the final season. Coming soon.” Another tweet reiterated, “Suburra 3, the final season, is now available on Netflix.” So there is not going to be another season of the show anytime soon.

Suburra has been adapted multiple times already. If Netflix wanted to move forward with the franchise, there could be spin-off shows, that happened in the case of Narcos, following the show’s tremendous success. But there has been no such announcement so far.
