‘Stranger‘ is a South Korean crime thriller drama series from tvN. Netflix made the series available to a global audience, and the streamer released new episodes in simultaneous broadcast with tvN.
The series follows a prosecutor and a Police Lieutenant who team up to solve complex murder cases. Their investigations often lead them against powerful enemies and a much greater conspiracy.
The first season of ‘Stranger‘ was released in 2017, and a second season arrived in 2020. K drama fans are wondering if the duo will return for more investigations.
Let’s find out.
Will There Be ‘Stranger’ season 3?
As of this writing, the third season of ‘Stranger’ is not confirmed yet. Although the Kdrama series was released on Netflix, it is worth noting that South Korea’s tvN produced the show. Hence, the renewal might not be up to Netflix entirely.
There are reports that the network is already “discussing the possibility of season 3.” However, until now, there is still no official confirmation about its renewal.
Nielsen TV Ratings reveals that Stranger has performed exceptionally in South Korea, which means that renewal is highly possible. The first season of the K drama was viewed by a remarkable 4.652% of total nationwide viewers. Season 2 had an even more impressive 7.265% of the audience share.
Unlike other K-drama shows, ‘Stranger‘ was planned to be a multi-season series. Hence, there is a high chance of its return.
When Will ‘Stranger’ Season 3 Release?
We are still waiting for Netflix or tvN to renew the series. If they decide to order more episodes, we cannot expect them to arrive very soon.
There was a three-year gap between the release dates of the first two seasons. Season 1 was released on June 10, 2017, while Season 2 premiered on August 15, 2020. Because of this, season 3 might not arrive until the end of 2024. Of course, these are still speculations. We will continue to wait for more updates about the show.
What Is The Plot Of ‘Stranger’ season 3?
‘Stranger‘ follows Hwang Si-mok (Cho Seung-woo), an excellent prosecutor who teams up with Police Lieutenant Han Yeo-jin (Bae Doona) to investigate a murder case. Their investigations often get thwarted by people who are part of a major conspiracy between the Prosecutors’ Office and a huge South Korean conglomerate.
In season 2, the two work together again while in the midst of the conflict between their respective agencies. They team up to conduct their own investigation on a hidden case.
There is no renewal for season 3 yet, so the official plot/synopsis is still unavailable. But in case the show gets renewed, it will logically pick up from the ending of season 2.
In season 2’s final episode, their units get disbanded. Yeo-jin transfers to the National Police’s Intelligence Division, while Shi-Mok goes to the Wonju prosecutors office. We expect to see more enticing investigations unfold in the new season. How will their new roles affect their upcoming pursuits? We can’t wait for season 3 to find out.
