Paramount+ announced a release date for its sequel Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will officially hit the theaters on 20 December 2024. Before Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was even released in cinemas, Paramount and Sega confirmed a threequel was on the way, as well as a spin-off series focused on Knuckles (voiced by Idris Elba) who made his debut in the sequel.

Paramount Pictures brought the nostalgic video-game character Sonic to life in the 2020 live-action film "Sonic the Hedgehog." Starring Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic, the film chronicles the hedgehog's mission to defeat the evil Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) with the help of his police-officer friend, Tom Wachowski (James Marsden).

What Can We Expect from Sonic 3?

As we had mentioned earlier mentioned, as far as the third film is concerned, there is no official plot announced yet. But it will definitely pick up where the second film ended. In particular, where the mid-credits scene ends suggests what we will be dealing with in the next film. In the second film, Sonic and Knuckles come together to reclaim Master Emerald from the clutches of Dr. Robotnik. We then have no idea where Robotnik is.

Keeping Up with the Casts:

Although details about the cast for "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" have yet to be confirmed, it looks like Schwartz will be returning to voice Sonic. The former "Parks and Recreation" star seemingly confirmed his involvement via a tweet in February. "We are building a whole universe here people!!!" the star wrote. "Honored to be a part of the ride. #SONICMOVIE2 coming 4/8 and then get ready for #SONICMOVIE3!" It's up in the air whether Carey will reprise his role. In a new Access Hollywood interview, the comedian shared that he's "fairly serious" about retiring. "I have enough. I've done enough. I am enough," the actor said.

We could see Tom Butler back as Commander Walters since GUN might play a bigger part in the third movie with Shadow's arrival, while Natasha Rothwell could return as Maddie's older sister Rachel and Shemar Moore as her fiancé Randall.

Co-writer Pat Casey revealed Shadow is "driven by anger and revenge" and that Sonic's attempts to befriend Shadow won't go as smoothly as they did with Knuckles. "Sonic's never had to deal with someone as emotionally damaged like Shadow...when he sees Shadow, he’s like, 'Well, I'll just teach him about the power of friendship, like with Knuckles!' But that's not going to work on Shadow," he told the Green Hill Zone podcast.
