New hope arises for the passengers of 'Snowpiercer' in season 3.
'Snowpiercer' season 2 has just concluded, but fans will be delighted to know that the post-apocalyptic dystopian thriller series will be back for another season.
The series is a reboot of the 2013 movie of the same name directed by Bong Joon-ho, which is also based on the 1982 French graphic novel Le Transperceneige.
It serves as the continuation of the film and follows the passengers of the Snowpiercer, an enormous, permanently moving train that circumnavigates the globe carrying the surviving humanity seven years after the Earth becomes frozen.
Season 2 introduced us to new characters, including Sean Bean as the charming and insidious villain, Mr. Wilford, and Rowan Blanchard as Alexandra Cavill.
The introduction of Mr. Wilford stirred the democracy established by Layton. Wilford tried to convince the passengers to re-embrace the cruel and class-based order of the billionaire Messiah, Mr. Wilford, who built the train.
The tension eventually resulted in Mr. Wilford taking back the control of Snowpiercer.
However, there could be new hope for the apocalypse survivors as Melanie discovers that the Earth is finally warming up from the Freeze.
Here's everything you need to know about 'Snowpiercer' Season 3.
'Snowpiercier' is officially renewed for season 3! TNT announced the show's renewal for a third season on January 19, 2021, a week ahead of season 2's January 25 release.
The early renewal is much-welcomed news. It provides fans an assurance that no matter how the second season will end, we will still see the story continue for another season.
The first two seasons had 10 episodes each, so we are expecting season 3 to have a similar count.
Release Date: TBA
TNT has not given us a release date yet, but it's likely for the third season to release in 2022. The first season premiered on the network on May 17, 2020, with its last episode airing on July 12, 2020.
The second season released on January 25, 2021 and the final episode aired on March 29, 2021.
The series' main cast members are likely to return for the third season. They are Daveed Diggs, Sean Bean, Rowan Blanchard, Alison Wright, Lena Hall, Mickey Sumner, Sam Otto, Annalise Basso, and Steven Ogg.
Chelsea Harris has been promoted to series regular, and Archie Panjabi is confirmed to join the cast.
TVLine also confirmed the return of Jennifer Connelly, although her character Melanie Cavill was seemingly killed off in the final episode.
Season 2's shocking ending left us with a cliffhanger.
We saw Andre Layton leading a group of rebels to steal the first 10 cars of Snowpiercer to transform it into a pirate train.
They set forth towards the Rocky Mountains to rescue Melanie only to find that she has left the research station and ventured off into the frozen wastelands to die.
Cavill left behind all of her data that proves her theory that parts of the Earth are getting warm enough to colonize.
For the upcoming season, we are likely to see Layton and his group return to the train and try to take it back from Mr. Wilford. Although the conflict could greatly affect the future of the human race, the upcoming season also bears hope to the remaining population of the dystopian world. Finally, Melanie's dream that "the future is outside" is now closer than ever.
