Sienna Miller exposes the problem with inequality in Hollywood and by extension, the world.
Sienna Miller spilled the beans about her experience with inequality in Hollywood, during her latest interview with Vogue Magazine. In the interview, she mentions that when she asked a Broadway producer to give her equal pay to her male co-stars she was told to f**k off! She did not reveal exactly who the Broadway producer was but we can easily speculate. The actress has only ever been in two Broadway musicals and those are 2014’s Cabaret and 2009’s Miss Julie.
“I said to the producer, who was extremely powerful, it’s not about money — it’s about fairness and respect, thinking they’d come back and say, ‘Of course, of course.’ But they didn’t.” Miller told Vogue. “They just said, ‘Well f**k off then.’”
The 40-year-old actress stated that it was a pivotal moment in her career as it made her realise she had ‘every right to be equally subsidized for the work that I would have done’. “[Actors who are] ten years younger have the word ‘no’ in their language in a way that I didn’t. [Now] if you say, ‘I don’t feel comfortable' in front of any form of executive, they’re s******g their pants. You’re included in a conversation about your level of comfort. It’s changed everything.”
Miller, along with many other actresses has brought up the inequality in Hollywood on multiple occasions. And this isn't the first time Sienna Miller made big statements on the pay gap between men and women. For the movie 21 Bridges, Miller pointed out that Chadwick Boseman's salary for the film was higher than hers. Boseman, being the stand-up guy that he was, gave Miller a portion of his salary to match his own.
“He said, ‘You’re getting paid what you deserve, and what you’re worth.’ In the aftermath of this I’ve told other male actor friends of mine that story and they all go very very quiet and go home and probably have to sit and think about things for a while.”
Sienna Miller is in the December 2022 issue of British Vogue and you can get a copy to read more of the interview or you can check out the Vogue website.
