'Shiki' Season 2: Everything We Know So Far

The chilling anime based on the Japanese horror novel has left fans craving for another season for over a decade now.

Shiki

'Shiki' is an adaptation of the 'Shiki' manga series drawn by Ryu Fujisaki. The manga is also an adaptation of a novel series of the same name by Fuyumi Ono. 'Shiki' brings us to a small, Japanese town in Sotoba, where a mysterious series of deaths occurred in the village at the same time a family moves into the long-abandoned mansion on top of a hill. The anime uses elements of horror and mystery. It was released and concluded in 2010. Fans consider it as one of the most underrated animes. They think it deserves more recognition and wonder if there will be more seasons in the future. Let us discuss that below.

Will There Be 'Shiki' Season 2?

The first season of 'Shiki' premiered on July 9, 2010. The anime aired its 22nd and last episode on December 31, 2010. It has been over a decade since the first season ended, but there is still no news of its renewal. Judging by the length of time that passed, it's almost impossible now for the anime to return. Of course, some animes get sequels even after 10-12 years, but those are from well-known franchises and big studios, which is not the case for 'Shiki.'

The manga also stopped its serialization in 2011. Animes are usually used to help drive more sales to the manga. Now that the manga has concluded, there might be no more reasons for the anime to return.

When Will 'Shiki' Season 2 Release?

'Shiki' is not renewed for season 2, so there is no release date available. Again, the anime now seems unlikely to get renewed due to the above-stated reasons. If there are changes in the future, we will update this space to reflect the information, including the release date.

What Is The Plot Of 'Shiki'?

In the small town of Sotaba, a string of seemingly unrelated deaths occurred, baffling the citizens. Others believed that the deaths were natural causes, while others think that the intense summer heat has something to do with the tragedy that only attacks elderly people. The director of the town hospital, Toshio Ozaki, initially thought that this must be a pandemic. However, after consulting his best friend and the local priest, Seishin Muroi, Ozaki gets convinced that sinister factors are involved.

Meanwhile, a moving company delivers furniture to the long-deserted castle at Sotoba in the middle of the night. This means that a new family is now moving there. Doctor Toshio notices that but doesn't pay much attention since he has a bigger problem to face.

Megumi Shimizu and her friend Kaori Tanaka both go to the local high school. Megumi has a crush on their schoolmate named Natsuno Yuuki.

Yuuki hates living in the small town of Sotoba and wants to live in the city. He is aware of Megumi's feelings, but he constantly rejects her advances.

Tired of Natsuno's rejections, Megumi goes to the hill to meet the new Kirishiki family from their castle. When she did not return home, the townspeople went out to search for her. They found her curled up and seemingly out of her mind in the woods near the castle. They discovered that she had anemia, probably caused by insect bites.

The townspeople brought her back to the village and expected her to get better in a few days. But instead, her condition gets worse and worse as the days pass by. She finally dies a couple of days later, and her grieving family is left puzzled.

Toshio refuses to believe that a simple condition like anemia can kill Megumi. He asks her family to conduct an autopsy, but they say no. Her father thinks that she died of natural causes, and an autopsy would violate her body.

Doctor Toshio is left with no choice but to sign the death certificate declaring she died of an unknown form of anemia. Megumi's death is just the beginning. Soon, more and more people get sick, but they refuse to go to the hospital.

To help save more lives, Toshio visits a town councilman Ishida to begin his research. There, he found out that ten more deaths have occurred between Sotoba and its neighboring town Mizobe. The deaths happened within a short time frame. Fearing that an epidemic is happening, Toshio springs into action. Along with Ishida and Seishin, they investigate the anomaly to find out the reason behind the mysterious deaths.

Meanwhile, Natsuno sits in his room and suddenly feels Megumi's presence. A constant stalker, Megumi used to peek inside his room in the middle of the night. But since she already passed away, he can't avoid but get goosebumps.

He draws the curtains and tries to divert his focus, but it still feels like Megumi is around, watching him. The rest of the anime continues to explore Toshio's struggles as he tries to resolve the epidemic and the mystery haunting the small town.
