Shafted (known as Super Mâles in French) will not have a second season, as it has been announced. It’s one of the several European versions of the popular Spanish series Alpha Males that have appeared and are currently being developed. The cancellation is likely due to poor performance.
In an exclusive interview with Télé-Loisirs, French actor Guillaume Labbé (who plays Cédric) shared his disappointment about the show’s cancellation.. Season 1 of the show premiered on January 24th, 2025.
“There is no season 2,” the actor told the outlet (we’ve translated to English), adding, “I really enjoyed making Super Mâles. It was a time when I wanted to do comedy. I really liked the theme, too. I would have liked there to be a second season because I loved working with the team. And it worked really well on Netflix. But they probably have good reasons for stopping that I don’t know exactly .”
He continued, “I’m frustrated,” and shared his disappointment about the show’s abrupt end. Labbé talked about his work on other projects, such as the new series La Tribu and his part in the movie Les Gouttes de Dieu.
Why was Shafted canceled after just one season?
It seems that performance is the issue. Even though the show began well and appeared in the top 10 rankings of more than 38 countries, it didn’t last very long.
As we’ve mentioned many times before, comedies usually do best in the area where they are made. To get renewed, a TV show often needs to stay in the top 10 for a month. Shafted was in the French TV Top 10 for just 17 days before it disappeared, and in Belgium, it was there for a little less time, only 12 days. This implies that the show did not build a lasting audience and probably had low rates of people finishing it.
Not everything is negative for the Alpha Males adaptations. Last week, we reported that Netflix’s Dutch version of the show, called Roosters (Haantjes), has been renewed for a second season. Also, the German version, Alphamännchen, is set to debut in Netflix Germany in 2026. The Spanish version of the show will come back soon with a fourth season.
