Seven Seconds had its seven seconds of fame when it premiered on Netflix in 2018. The show follows the investigation of the death of a 15-year-old African American boy in Jersey City and all the cover-ups and scandals behind it. But with the investigation over, is Netflix going to pump more resources into this mystery? Let’s explore.
Seven Seconds Season 2: Will It Ever Return?
The show was initially billed as an anthology series so many would assume that we would have gotten a second season. However, Netflix officially canceled the show on April 19th, 2018.
Cindy Holland, VP of Original Content at Netflix, said “We loved working with Veena Sud, Regina King, and the cast and crew of Seven Seconds. Together they created a compelling, timely, and relevant crime drama. The first season is a complete, stand-alone story that we are proud to feature on Netflix for years to come.”
Seven Seconds was highly praised with a current audience score on Rotten Tomatoes of 84% and a critics score of 78%. These are really good reviews but Netflix may have canceled the show solely based on low viewership, despite what Holland said. Netflix has been known to be merciless with shows that garnered low viewership out the gate.
At least we can be happy that the show had a conclusive ending and did not just suddenly end.
The show starred Regina King, Clare-Hope Ashitey, Russell Hornsby, Beau Knapp, Michael Mosley, David Lyons, Raul Castillo, Zackary Momoh, Nadia Alexander, Coley Speaks, Patrick Murney, and Michelle Veintimilla.
