Will 'The Seven Deadly Sins' return for season 6?
'The Seven Deadly Sins' (Nanatsu no Taizai) season 5 has wrapped on Netflix. However, fans were wondering why there are only 12 episodes available instead of the usual 24. 'Seven Deadly Sins' is among the biggest and most popular anime offerings on the platform, and fans were ecstatic when Netflix dropped the second half of the second season. 'Seven Deadly Sins' season 6 is unlikely to happen as the show has exhausted all of its source material. The show has come to a natural end, but there is a chance for the anime to return with a whole new story. Season 5 of 'The Seven Deadly Sins' was released in two parts. The first part dropped 12 episodes on June 28, 2021, while the second season was released on September 23, 2021. A movie adaptation titled 'The Seven Deadly Sins: Cursed by Light' followed shortly after and was released globally on October 1st, 2021, on Netflix. The movie is a continuation of season 5 and premiered in Japan on July 2, 2021. The fifth season covered the final chapters of the manga, while 'The Seven Deadly Sins: Cursed by Light' serves as an original sequel story. Although the fifth season covered the manga finale, there is still a glimmer of hope for the anime to return, although it might be a whole new different series. Author Suzuki could just create an entirely new story to cover another season, just like what he did in the movie. Or they could also adapt 'The Seven Deadly Sins: The Four Knights of the Apocalypse' (Nanatsu no Taizai: Mokushiroku no Yon-Kishi), a sequel to the original manga. Production for 'The Four Knights' began in late January 2021. As of this update (September 2023), there are 13 tankōbon volumes available. So, there is definitely enough source material to produce an anime season. We'll keep you posted on any developments as they come our way.
It is unlikely that Season 6 of the anime will happen. This is because the anime has already covered the entire original manga. However, there is a sequel manga currently in production. The anime follows the titular knights who get disbanded after getting framed for plotting a coup of the Liones Kingdom. Years after the Seven Deadly Sins got sequestered by the Holy Knights, the third Liones princess, Elizabeth, finds Meliodas, the bandleader. The two embarked on a quest to search for the missing members of the Seven Deadly Sins so they could clear their names and liberate Liones from the Holy Knights. It was later revealed that Meliodas is the Demon King's cursed son and that his destiny is tied to Elizabeth's. As mentioned, 'Seven Deadly Sins' season 5 will finish adapting the manga series on which the show is based. If the anime returns for a new season, we can expect it to adapt an entirely new story or the manga sequel 'The Four Knights.'
