An investigation into the Secret Invasion series on Disney+ reveals Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke is playing a spymaster with ties to the X-Men.
MCU's most awaited thriller series Secret Invasion might have accidentally dropped a hint about Emilia Clarke's role through a GIF posted to social media.
Since announcing Clarke joining the superhero genre, fans have been eager to know every detail about her debut in the Disney+, Marvel Studios venture. However, Disney has been maintaining complete secrecy over her role. Though many reports suggested that the actor was playing a 'spy with powers'. But the 36-year-old actress' character seemed to be accidentally revealed by Marvel in an otherwise innocuous GIF posted to the popular social media app Tenor. The GIF showed Clarke in character saying, 'It's the beginning.' She wore her dark brown hair short so it barely brushed her shoulders.

The first teaser for Secret Invasion was released at this year's D23 Expo and showed Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) returning to Earth to investigate the Skrulls, a race of shapeshifting aliens who have infiltrated the planet. Other Marvel Cinematic Universe characters returning for the series include Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Martin Freeman as Everett Ross and Don Cheadle as James Rhodes/War Machine, with the latter set to star in his own Disney+ MCU show, Armor Wars.

One of the new cast members is Olivia Colman as Sonya Falsworth, a secret agent and another ally of Fury's. Her character's surname connects her to James Montgomery Falsworth (played by JJ Field in Captain America: The First Avenger), a member of the World War II platoon the Howling Commandos and, in the comics, the British superhero Union Jack. Also joining the series is Kingsley Ben-Adir as Gravik, the leader of a group of rebel Skrulls and the main villain of the series.
In the canon Marvel comic book story, Abigail Brand is the commander of S.W.O.R.D., the intelligence agency that is the counterpart of S.H.I.E.L.D., and that was already introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in WandaVision. The agency has the important task of protecting Earth against extraterrestrial threats. “Secret Invasion” is one of the most popular Marvel arcs ever, and it sees the shape-shifting Skrulls wreaking havoc among superheroes. If the series mirrors the comics, Abigail can be a spy whose half-alien nature might help Fury uncover the Skrull threat along with Talos (Ben Mendelson).

It's unclear how many liberties the creators may take with her backstory in the highly-anticipated television miniseries. Fans took to Twitter to express their opinions and, as with many debates over Marvel projects, some fans were excited and some weren't.
0'Can't hardly wait!! let's go Queen #EmiliaClarke [red heart emoji] she's gonna eat this role up [fire emoji],' one user wrote.
Another added, 'I was hoping for Queen Veranke of the Skrulls .... but I guess if you hire Emilia Clarke, you dont want her hidden behind prosthetics or CGI. I'm still excited for the Secret Invasion!!'
