The Chronicles of Riddick has been a project very close to Vin Diesel‘s heart and it has been more than four years since the announcement of its fourth installment, Riddick 4: Furya, and also a tie-in TV series. Diesel said in an interview that the movie was ready to shoot back in 2021. This movie will mark the fourth live-action outing for Vin as Riddick, a character who has also appeared in an animated feature film and a video game. It’s been quite long since Vin Diesel has been teasing the fans and we are here to tell everything we know about the movie.
Is Riddick 4 Happening?
The development of “Riddick 4: Furya” has been officially confirmed, with the news emerging in February 2023 that the sequel, starring Vin Diesel, is in progress. David Twohy, who directed “Pitch Black,” will return as the director for this installment. Over the years, Diesel has hinted at the possibility of “Riddick 4,” but the recent announcement marks the most definitive update to date. In March 2023, Twohy, who has directed and written the previous Riddick films, made it official that the project was underway, indicating that a release date was now foreseeable. In a discussion with Deadline, Twohy expressed his enthusiasm:
“Our legion of fans have demanded it for years, and now we’re finally ready to honor their call-to-action with Riddick: Furya. My collaboration with Vin and One Race has spanned 20 fruitful years, as together we’ve created three movies, two video games, an anime production, and motion comics for the internet. This new big-screen event will see a return to Riddick’s homeworld, where we finally get to explore Riddick’s genesis.”
Although the formal announcement came in 2023, the seeds for the fourth Riddick film were planted earlier. In 2014, Universal Pictures first showed interest in continuing the Riddick series. The following year, Diesel announced that the fourth film would be named “Furya” and confirmed its R-rating. Despite this early momentum, the film encountered delays in its pre-production phase, with Diesel diverting his focus to other major projects, including the “Fast and Furious” series and the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films.

What is The Potential Release Date of Riddick 4: Furya?
Tentatively named Riddick 4: Furya for almost four years now, the question that lingers is when will we see the movie? Well, the bad news is that the movie has not gone into production yet. There is no official date for Furya. Vin Diesel is filming Fast 11 and has lined up his next project xXx 4, reprising his role as Xander Cage. At this pace, the film will not go into production until 2024, which means Riddick’s fourth big-screen adventure won’t hit the theaters until 2025; that’s us being extremely positive!
What Will be The Plot of Riddick 4: Furya?
It could very well follow the footsteps of its predecessor, The Chronicles of Riddick, which will belong in the genre 2004 action-adventure rather than horrors like Pitch Black and Riddick. Vin Diesel has suggested that this story will explore the character’s origin story. In the previous movie, Riddick’s hometown was shown, which went by the titular name Furya. The storyboard slide from Vin’s Instagram Handle showed Riddick in a spacesuit with an “astounded” expression on his face. This is what led many fans to think that this story would be about his backstory.
Who Will be Back in The Cast of Riddick 4:Furya?
The film is incomplete without Vin Diesel, so it goes without saying that he will be a part of this film. The film will be created by the same individuals, Jim Wheat and Ken Wheat. The production is still at an early stage, so it’s very difficult to tell who will be present in the cast.
