Hugh Jackman reunites with Rebecca Ferguson in the upcoming sci-fi drama film that will take you into a mind-bending journey down memory lane.
Hugh Jackman is teaming up again with 'The Greatest Showman' co-star Rebecca Ferguson in a much darker sci-fi drama film that will explore the depths of nostalgia. Aptly titled 'Reminiscence,' the movie will see Jackman's character digging hard into his memories to uncover the mystery behind the disappearance of the woman he loves. Fans are already calling the film a combination of 'The Matrix' and 'Inception
'Reminiscence' is directed by Lisa Joy, who also wrote and co-produced the film. Lisa has astounding credits in the sci-fi genre. She served as the co-creator of the HBO science-fiction drama series 'Westworld.' Jonathan Nolan, Michael De Luca, and Aaron Ryder also serve as co-producers alongside Joy.
With a stellar cast and an impressive premise, 'Reminiscence' could easily be the best film of 2021.
Let us discuss everything there is to know about the film, including release date, plot, cast, trailer, and more.
'Reminiscence' is coming to theaters on August 20, 2021. The film will also be simultaneously available on HBO Max for 30 days.
In December 2020, Warner Bros announced that all of its 2021 movies will release in theaters and HBO Max simultaneously. Among those films is 'Reminiscence.' This is a great move to maximize a film's revenue, especially in times during the pandemic when some theaters are still unable to operate in full capacity.
'Reminiscence' was originally scheduled to release on April 16, 2021. However, 'Mortal Kombat' took over the slot.
'Reminiscence' is set in a not-so-distant future when the sea levels rise and eventually flooded the land. With a war breaking out and the sea levels getting higher and higher, people started losing sight of the future and turned to look at the past instead.
This new need has breathed life into Nicolas "Nick" Bannister's (Hugh Jackman) business. Nick is a solitary veteran living in a flooded Miami. Together with his businesss partner Watts, Nick runs a business that offers clients the chance to relive any memory they desire. This is a dangerous occupation that requires the utmost expertise that Nick posses.
His life changes when he meets a mysterious young woman named Mae (Rebecca Ferguson), who visits him one day to retrieve a lost memory. What was supposed to be a simple job turned into a whirlwind of a dizzying and passionate love affair, which abruptly stops when Mae suddenly disappears.
Confused, Nick goes on a mission to find out what happened to Mae and, hopefully, get her back. Nick travels through his memories and of his other clients, who had connections with Mae. He was trying to look for clues but instead finds a different side of Mae that he never knew existed. After uncovering her involvement in several violent crimes, others warned Nick to move on and stay away from Mae. However, Nick is already far too involved. Will he uncover the truth before he loses his sanity?
"He’s just immediately intrigued and drawn in and mesmerized and increasingly becomes after this long — or relatively short, actually — love affair obsessed with her and needs to discover what has happened because he knows in his heart that something is wrong, something bad has happened to her, and he just won’t accept any other version of the events, and goes on this great odyssey and through the darkest places of the world of Miami," Rebecca Ferguson described the connection between her character and Hugh Jackman's in an interview with Cinemablend.
Hugh Jackman is taking on the lead role and stars as Nicolas "Nick" Bannister, the rugged and solitary veteran who runs a business helping people relive their memories.
Rebecca Ferguson stars as Mae, the mysterious woman who eventually becomes Nick's love interest. Her disappearance will spiral Nick into a deadly mission that will uncover a violent conspiracy.
Thandiwe Newton plays Watts, Nick's business partner. The rest of the cast members include Nico Parker as Zoe, Daniel Wu as Saint Joe, Mojean Aria as Sebastian, and Brett Cullen as Walter Sylvan.
Cliff Curtis, Marina de Tavira, Natalie Martinez, and Angela Sarafyan are also starring in the film in undisclosed roles.
