Red Notice 2: Everything We Know So Far

The film received mixed reviews but the ending has set up the potential for a follow-up film.

Red Notice is an action comedy film starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as FBI special agent, John Hartley, who is on a mission to capture a notorious art thief called The Bishop (Gal Gadot). For this, he reluctantly teams up with Nolan Booth played by Ryan Reynolds, another well-known art thief.

The film was written and directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber. It was initially made for Universal Pictures but was later acquired by Netflix. It was even released theatrically on November 5 and is available for streaming online. The film broke a Netflix record to become the most-watched film ever on the streaming service on its opening day, according to its three main stars, reported NME. The film received mixed reviews but the ending has set up the potential for a follow-up film.

Will There Be Red Notice 2?

The end of the film sees the three lead actors come together to set off on what seems to be another exciting art heist. The film has seemingly broken records, going on to become a popular film with its star-studded cast and a surprising cameo from a well-known pop star. “WOW Red Notice is Netflix's biggest ever opening day for a film,” Reynolds wrote on Instagram. "Congrats to this whole team!" He jokingly added, "Can’t wait for Red Notice (Taylor’s version),” referring to Taylor Swift's new album Red (Taylor’s Version) which also happened to come out on the same day as the film.

While Reynold's light-hearted joke may not be an indication of a sequel, his co-star, Johnson has been more forthcoming about the possibility of a sequel. "I would love to do more... It's up to the audience, so we will see. I will tell you that just based on reaction so far and what we've been able to cull from the audiences, there's a good chance that we will see a return of this," he told SiriusXM. "And as a matter of fact, literally within the next hour, I'm meeting Rawson Thurber here at this hotel and he, in his mind, has a 45-minute pitch that apparently is really good for Red Notice 2."

So, yes, it looks very much like there will be a sequel.

What Is The Production Status of Red Notice 2

So far, there has been no official confirmation from Netflix with regards to the sequel of Red Notice. As per Digital Spy, Netflix sequels arrive two years after the first film. This would mean that the movie, if confirmed for a sequel, will be arriving in November 2023. “I think it comes down to if Reed Hastings, Ted Sarandos, and Scott Stuber want to do it," Thurber said about the sequel, referring to the top executives at Netflix. "If Netflix wants to do it, and the stars will come back, I’m presently unemployed and tech avail. So we’ll see what happens.”

Who Is Cast In Red Notice 2?

Johnson and Gadot have publicly expressed their excitement to be a part of the sequel. When asked in a recent interview if she would like to reprise her role in a Red Notice sequel, she said, “I hope so. I love these guys and I would love to have the opportunity to work with them again.”

With how things looked at the end of the first film, most of the cast, if not all of them, will be a part of the sequel.

What Is The Plot Of Red Notice 2

The first film ended (spoiler alert!) with Booth showing up at the yacht where Hartley and The Bishop are enjoying themselves after double-crossing the authorities as well as a billionaire. Booth offers a "three-thief job" to them after backing them into a corner. In the end, the trio is outside the Louvre Museum in Paris, about to undertake another heist possibly. This could just be the premise of the sequel.
