Raising Dion is a superhero series that is available for streaming on Netflix. It is based on the 2015 comic book and the short film of the same name by Dennis Liu. It follows the story of a woman, Nicole, who raises her son Dion after the death of her husband Mark. Dion develops superhero abilities and Nicole has to keep it a secret, to protect him from exploitation while trying to find the origins of his powers.
The first season premiered on October 4, 2019, and was well-received by viewers. It was renewed for a second season in 2020 and it premiered on February 1, 2022. The second season did well and was watched for over 108.75 million hours in a month. Here’s what we know about the future of the show:
Will There Be Season 3 Of Raising Dion?
Raising Dion has been officially canceled. On April 26th Sammi Haney, who played Esperanza, confirmed the news in a long post on Instagram saying:
Sad to say that Raising Dion is CANCELED. Thank you for all of the amazing support we got from all of our wonderful fans! Season 2 was a success, equal to Season 1, even if just looking at how many people watched all of it and wanted a season 3!
The only “silver lining” is that this does free me up to pursue other roles. My Netflix contract kept me from accepting other major roles offered to me (1 actually written with me in mind) on other tv shows! So if you work for a major studio, hit me up again, I’m ready!
What’s more, the young cast of the show is keen on another season as well. They even made a video to urge people to support it by helping it reach the number one spot on Netflix.
What Will The Plot Of Raising Dion Season 3 Be?
The second season of the show has ended with Dion and Nicole going up against a familiar villain and his army of minions. In the end-credit scene, we see the future as a dystopian version of the world. It shows the likeliness of a showdown between Dion and Pat. We will also get answers about how Pat survived to show up in the future again. If the series does get renewed, we may be meeting a much older version of Dion since the future seems to be very far off from the present time in season two.
Another repetitive theme is the probability of Dion’s dad, Mark Warren, making a comeback. We may be seeing this happen in the next season. But these hopes are now tarnished as Netflix has officially canceled the show.
Who Will Be Cast In Raising Dion Season 3?
If the show had been renewed we would have seen Dion and his Triangle of Justice—Ja’Siah Young as Dion, Sammi Haney as Esperanza, and Gavin Munn as Jonathan King, for sure. Nicole, played by Alisha Wainwright would have also returned along with Rome Flynn as Tevin Wakefield, and Jason Ritter as Pat Rollins. Ali Ahn as Biona Suzanne Wu, Jazmyn Simon as Aunty Kat, and Aubriana Davis as Janelle Carr would have also been expected to come back to season 3. Fans were also hoping to see Michael B. Jordan as Mark Warren make a comeback in the next season as well.
When Will Raising Dion Season 3 Be Released?
The show has been canceled so there is no release date at the moment but we will keep you informed.
