‘Quicksand’ Season 2: Everything We Know So Far

Fans loved the first season of ‘Quicksand’ and want to see more of it already. The streaming giant released its Swedish teen drama series Quicksand’ on April 5, 2019, with overall 6 episodes in one go. It is a story of a teen who, after the death of her fellow students, goes on trial for murder. The show follows the same fashion as ’13 Reasons Why’ and ‘Élite,’ both of which have been a big hits on Netflix, leading to its renewals. The show is disturbing and deals with some real-life tragedies teenagers get stuck with. Maybe that’s why the first season grabbed the attention of fans, and now they want to see the second season. But the question is, will there be a second installment?

Are There Any Chances For Second Installment To Happen?

Frankly, nothing is certain. Netflix didn’t seem to make any official announcement about the show’s future, but it is listed as ‘ended’ on Wikipedia. The show may not be officially canceled, but it is unlikely that Netflix will pump money into the second season of Quicksand anytime soon. I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for season 2.

If ‘Quicksand’ Season 2 Happens, When Will It Come On Netflix?

Considering that the first season of ‘Quicksand’ came out in April 2019, we were expecting it to be released at the same time in 2020. That time has long gone, and we haven’t even gotten any renewal news. It seems like Netflix has moved on with other projects, and Quicksand will no longer return for season 2.

What To Expect In ‘Quicksand’ Season 2?

The official synopsis of season 1 reads, ”When a tragedy takes place at a prep school in Stockholm’s wealthiest suburb, a normal high school student, Maja Norberg (Ardéhn), finds herself on trial for murder. When the events of that day are revealed, so too are the private details about her relationship with Sebastian Fagerman (Sandman) and his dysfunctional family. Störst Av Allt (Quicksand) is based on the best-selling novel by Malin Persson Giolito, which has been published in 26 countries and was voted Nordic Crime Novel of the year in 2016.”

Season 1 of the show revolved around a well-adjusted teenager who ended up becoming a murderer after a high school shooting with her finger on the trigger. Season one also showed the romance of teens Maja (played by Hanna Ardéhn) and her boyfriend from the wrong side of the tracks, Sebastian (Felix Sandman), before things got off the hook. The show showed the action with the trial and flashbacks to the events leading to the big tragedy. One can expect the season to start from the events of the first run and might also add some new characters.

The fact that season 1 took place in the posh area of the Stockholm suburb, it is possible that the second season might also be in the same setting. For those who don’t know, the show ‘Quicksand’ is based on the 2016 book of the same name, and since there hasn’t been any sequel to the novel, getting a second installment TV show would be entertaining a brand new story.

Who Will Be The Cast Of ‘Quicksand’ Season 2?

There are still no formal announcements for Quicksand season 2, and we have low hopes about its renewal. However, if the show gets a second chance, here are our casting predictions.

Because season 2 will be engaging in a brand new storyline, we can expect the cast will depend on where the story is flowing, which could also mean that the main stars will be back. We can expect the cast who could return to be Hanna Ardéhn as Maja and Felix Sandman as Sebastian. Since there is no official confirmation about the show, we cannot say anything with confidence. It also depends on the focus of the show; if the second season moves its focus, then there might be a new cast coming in, which we can only be sure of if there is an official announcement. However, Camilla Ahlgren – who also worked on Scandi Noir The Bridge – could be back on writing duties for a possible season two.

In 2017, writer Camilla Ahlgren said, “It is both a great honor and challenge to work with FLX and Netflix on Quicksand,” she told THR in a statement. “I want to tell this story from the main character Maja’s perspective; her story raises questions about guilt, responsibility, punishment, and redemption. It holds a mirror up to our time whilst also serving as both a suspenseful thriller and a moving love story.”
