The Disney movies most of us grew up watching are now being revived as live-action remakes. Over the recent years, we have seen iconic movies like The Lion King, Beauty And The Beast, Cinderella, Aladdin, and Mulan made into live-action movies with some renowned actors. They can never take the place of the animated movies we enjoyed as children but they keep on coming.

The latest live-action project is the adaptation of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs which was first released by Disney in 1937. Over the years, many people have pointed out the problematic nature of the film and its portrayal of the characters of the dwarfs. While there are many people who have objected to the remake of the Snow White movie, one person, in particular, has been very vocal about what a bad idea it is.

Peter Dinklage, of Game of Thrones fame, has spoken up against the live-action remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. He recently appeared on Marc Maron’s 'WTF' podcast and criticized the fairytale that was originally written by the Brothers Grimm. "There’s a lot of hypocrisy going on," Dinklage said in the podcast. "Literally no offense to anyone, but I was a little taken aback when they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White. But you’re still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me."

He was referring to the lead role being given to Rachel Zegler, who became a breakthrough star with her role in Steven Spielberg's West Side Story. Dinklage continued, "You’re progressive in one way but then you’re still making that f***** backward story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together, what the f*** are you doing, man? Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough." He went on to say, "I don’t know which studio that is but they were so proud of it. All love and respect to the actress and all the people who thought they were doing the right thing. But I’m just like, what are you doing?"

The dwarfs in the original story and the Disney film did not live in a cave, but rather a cottage. The film has been criticized for being ableist. The dwarfs each have a characteristic assigned to them and are depicted as being stupid or clumsy. Snow White treats them as if they are all children, reported The Independent. Dinklage shared how if it was a retelling of a fairytale with a progressive angle, he would be all too happy to see it come to life but was baffled that Disney had chosen to work on Snow White in the traditional form.

The film will be directed by Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer, The Amazing Spider-Man) who has stated that he plans on updating the original movie but has not clarified in what capacity yet. US Magazine has reported that the soundtrack is being updated for sure and will feature new songs written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the Tony Award and Oscar-winning duo behind Dear Evan Hansen and La La Land
