Fans could expect a more faithful on-screen adaptation as Rick Riordan and his wife will be involved in every aspect of the show.

Percy Jackson is officially having a live-action TV series on Disney plus, Rick Riordan announced.

The 55 -year-old author announced the fantastic news on twitter together with his wife Becky in a short video.

"After a lot of hard work and a lot of support from you guys, Percy Jackson is coming to Disney plus!" Riordan said.

The announcement was short but Riordan promised to reveal more details soon.

In 2010, Riordan's first novel "Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief" was adapted into a film. However, many fans left the theaters disappointed after significant key elements of the book were not delivered on screen.

The second book to be adapted into a feature film was "Sea of Monsters" which released in 2013.

Though both films received criticisms, it grossed $425 Million combined worldwide.

The other books in the series are "The Titan’s Curse,” “The Battle of the Labyrinth,” and “The Last Olympian.”

Riordan is aware of the fans' clamor for genuine on-screen adaptations of his book.

In 2018, Riordan wrote in a lengthy blog post, "Once I saw the final script and saw what they were doing on the set, I realized I had to step away for my own peace of mind."

However, it looks like the Disney plus series will finally put an end to this dilemma and will give the fans what they have been long wishing for.

Talking to Twitter again, Riordan said that he and his wife will be involved in every aspect of the show.

Here is Riordan's full statement:

"For the past decade, you’ve worked hard to champion a faithful on-screen adaptation of Percy Jackson’s world. Some of you have even suggested it would be a great series for Disney+. We couldn’t agree more!

We can’t say much more at this stage but we are very excited about the idea of a live-action series of the highest quality, following the storyline of the original Percy Jackson five-book series, starting with The Lightning Thief in season one.

Rest assured that Becky and I will be involved in person in every aspect of the show. There will be much more news in the future, but for now, we have a lot of work to do! Buckle up, demigods. It’s going to be a fantastic exciting ride!"

The book series talks about the adventure of a demigod Percy Jackson. He is the son of a human mother and Poseidon, the ancient Greek god of the sea.

His supposedly normal American teenage life turned upside down after he found out about his nature.

He often encounters mythical creatures and develops amazing powers along the way.

With five books already published in the series, Disney will have enough creative material for the show. However, it remains unknown how the storyline would exactly flow in the live-action series. They will likely adopt one book for one season. It won't be long before our questions will be answered.

In the meantime, the pubic's initial reaction to the announcement is mostly positive. This isn't surprising considering it's been a decade since the first on-screen adaptation.
