Despite concerns about how a reboot of an iconic show would be, viewers were pleasantly surprised to see that it did justice to the original show.
iCarly set the precedent for today's social media influencers. The sitcom originally aired on Nickelodeon from 2007 to 2012 and tells the story of Carly Shay, a teenager who creates her own web show called iCarly with her best friends Sam Puckett and Freddie Benson. This web show quickly becomes an internet phenomenon, and the youngsters now have to learn how to balance their lives as teenagers with the crazy situations they find themselves in following their online fame.
The show was a massive hit at the time. It then got a reboot, which premiered in 2021. Despite concerns about how a reboot of an iconic show would be, viewers were pleasantly surprised to see that it did justice to the original show. Fans can't seem to get enough of the show as the show was renewed for the second season that just concluded earlier this month. Here's what you need to know about the future of the show:
iCarly has been officially renewed for a third season. Paramount+ made the special announcement on July 27th, 2023 along with a teaser video.
It is rare for a reboot series to do as well as the original show did. Nearly a decade later, the show has the same vibe and flow as it did before. The show has mostly gotten positive reviews so far and has even won two Kids' Choice Awards in 2022 for Favorite Family TV Show and Miranda Cosgrove won Favorite Female TV Star. The second season of the show was renewed a month after the first season concluded. And the third season of the show was renewed soon after the second season concluded.
The ending of the second season has set the perfect setting for it to pick up from. The second season ended with a cliffhanger with the possibility of a couple that everyone wanted to happen even a decade ago. “Maybe there’s something that really stuck there. Maybe the reason that Carly hasn’t dated is that she’s hung up on Freddie,” showrunner Ali Schouten told Entertainment Weekly from the perspective of why Pearl accused Carly and Freddie of being in love. “Now, the flip side could argue that Carly was just working on herself and isn’t that great, and she wasn’t focused on dating. So there are two ways to see it. And I don’t know that either one is entirely wrong.” Fans would love to see how that plays out.
The main characters are likely to reprise their roles, and Cosgrove would return as Carly along with Nathan Kress as Freddie, Jerry Trainor as Spencer, Laci Mosley as Harper, and Jaidyn Triplett as Millicent. The previous season had a number of exciting cameos including Josh Peck from Drake & Josh in which he co-starred with Cosgrove as well as some of the queens from RuPaul’s Drag Race. There may be other cameos if the season is renewed for another season.
The first two seasons were released one year apart from each other. Paramount+ announced that the third season will be released in 2023.
