It quickly became one of the most well-known series as evidenced by how quickly the second season followed in 2018 and the third which is expected to drop soon.
Jason Bateman, who usually performs roles that make us laugh, surprised many fans with his dramatic performance as Marty Byrde in Ozark. In fact, the manner in which the entire series has been executed and received has had fans compare it to that of Breaking Bad, although that may be stretching it a bit too much since the show has quite the feat to scale before it reaches that kind of recognition.
If you’re a fan of the series and want to be in the know about the third season, then you’ve come to the right place indeed. We’ve got the latest scoop on the Ozark’s third season’s cast, plot, trailer, release date and more.
Ozark was renewed for a third season back in October 2018.
This news was also confirmed by lead actor Jason Bateman’s Twitter account.
I'm happy for me, but concerned for Marty - it's official OZARK 3 is on its way. pic.twitter.com/xeGXZxfrjB— Jason Bateman (@batemanjason) October 10, 2018
Bateman quoted his tweet by saying “I'm happy for me, but concerned for Marty - it's official OZARK 3 is on its way.”
The renewal could have been seen a mile away though, not to mention that it took the show two months after dropping season 2 to be renewed. So it goes to show that we are getting a third season, but anything after that is up in the air right now, though showrunner Chris Mundy says that he expects the show to run for five seasons according to The Hollywood Reporter.
As for when the third season is set to release, the hint may be provided in the previous seasons’ releases; season 1 premiered in June 2017, whereas season 2 came around at the end of August 2018. So we can be sure that the show’s third season will come to us sometime later this year.
Right now, the show is set to go into production sometime in the middle or at the end of May 2019. With that in mind, the filming might not be projected to wrap up until October 2019, which means we could probably expect the show to be back by early 2020, or late 2019 if we’re lucky.
Most of the lead cast members are going to be reprising their roles, including:
Marty Byrde (Jason Bateman)
Wendy Byrde (Laura Linney)
Ruth Langmore (Julia Garner)
Other cast members who are expected to return include:
Charlotte Byrde (Sofia Hublitz)
Jonah Byrde (Skylar Gaertner)
Darlene Snell (Lisa Emery)
Rachel (Jordana Spiro)
Wyatt Langmore (Charlie Tahan)
Three (Carson Holmes)
Helen Pierce (Janet McTeer)
Frank Cosgrove (John Bedford Lloyd)
Mundy says that the show will get right back to Marty and Wendy who are struggling with how they deal and interact with outside forces like the Snells and the Langmores. He also confirms that Wendy’s brother, which they’ve already “hinted at the first couple years as having some sort of mental illness in the past,” will jump right into the story and cause quite the commotion.
Mundy says that Wendy’s brother is “going to be a very destabilizing factor.”
And seeing as how Marty got him and his family wrapped up in criminal activities and associations in season 2, we’re in for quite the story motherload that can carry on for more seasons.
Season 2 was all about Marty trying to open up a giant casino boat which is their biggest operation yet, specifically to launder money in hundreds and millions to give to the Mexican drug cartel. Given that he accomplished this by the season finale, this is going to be the main focus for the Byrdes in season 3. Of course, this operation won’t completely be unscathed or flawless as they have plenty of things to patch up, including the number of deaths that stacked up from the previous season.
One of those deaths includes Cade Langmore who was offed by an unidentified gunman. This is a real headscratcher as there were lots of people who wanted the man dead and could have contracted the unknown assailant, like Marty, his nephew or his daughter Ruth. But before he met with his maker, Cade killed officer Roy Petty, giving cops just enough reason to investigate the Ozarks.
Then there’s the inexcusable murder of Pastor Mason Young by Marty, which anything else in the series, he can’t possibly hope to cover his tracks and protect Wendy. Although they did cremate his body, it’s unlikely that we’re not going to come back to that. And finally, Darlene Snell who had killed her husband, Jacob, with the Byrdes arranging someone to adopt her baby, but may have let him in an even dire situation.
But the biggest twist of the second season came with Wendy who not only enjoyed being part of her husband’s money laundering schemes but also ultimately overthrowing him by linking directly to the cartel through her lawyer Helen Pierce (Janet McTeer) and backing out of going to Australia as he had intended. So when season three comes around, we are guaranteed to see some kind of power struggle between the two parents later on.
The third season, just like the others, will comprise of 10 episodes and will be available for streaming upon its release.
Not likely given that the third season’s production hasn’t even got underway.
