(Update: As of January 28, 2021, the petition is near the half-million mark and already has over 437 thousand signatures.)

More than 300,000 fans (and counting) have signed a petition demanding to bring Johnny Depp back to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

The petition started by Riza Siddiqui 2 years ago continues to draw in signatures, with around one person signing every second while we are writing this article.

The petition reads: ‘Johnny Depp has been out recently as Captain Jack Sparrow. One of the reasons is his personal issues as well.’

‘He has been playing this role since 2003 when we first saw him arriving at the Port Royal in his boat with that epic background music playing. But can you imagine someone else portraying this instead of him? Or no Jack Sparrow at all?’

In 2018 Disney has confirmed that they are planning to move on with the series without Depp on board.

"We want to bring in a new energy and vitality," Disney's production chief Sean Bailey said via The Hollywood Reporter back in December 2018.

He continued: "I love the [Pirates] movies, but part of the reason Paul and Rhett are so interesting is that we want to give it a kick in the pants. And that's what I've tasked them with."

Depp has led the franchise as Captain Jack Sparrow for 14 years, grossing more than £3.56 billion.

However, Disney wanted to reboot the franchise and introduce new characters.

There are two Pirates of The Caribbean movies currently in the works. One is an entirely new film starring Margot Robbie, with a script penned by Birds of Prey’s Christina Hodson; the other is a sequel from series writers Ted Elliott and Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin.

Recently, Depp has lost another role right after losing his libel case against British tabloid The Sun's publisher News Group Newspapers (NGN), and author slash Executive Editor Dan Wooton over an article that called him a 'wife-beater.'

Depp shared the devastating news to his fans through his social media page.

Fans then started another petition to bring Johnny Depp back as Gellert Grindelwald, warning Warner Brothers that they will boycott the film if they do not listen.

The petition started by Andriana Pavlidou currently draws more than 200,000 signatures and counting.

The petition says: "Johnny Depp was asked by Warner Bros to resign and leave his role of Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts 3 movie. This happened because of the verdict of his case with "The Sun" tabloid that was completely unfair. We want him back! Warner Bros should listen to the public or we will boycott the movie!!!"
