'Odd Taxi' Season 2: Everything We Know So Far

Odokawa has come face to face with Yuki's true killer. Will the anime return for season 2?

Odd Taxi

The recent years have witnessed the emergence and success of animes featuring anthropomorphic animals like 'Beastars' and 'Aggretsuko.' One of the recent animes that followed a similar path is 'Odd Taxi.' The anime has received incredible reviews, and fans are very eager to find out if it's returning for more. 'Odd Taxi' is set in an alternate Tokyo run by anthropomorphic animals. The anime follows Odokawa, a 41-year-old walrus taxi driver with a painful childhood. After getting abandoned by his parents at a young age, Odokawa grew up to be asocial. His main source of interaction is through his passengers. Odokawa's conversations with his passengers eventually lead him on a complex trail that will uncover the mystery behind a missing high school girl. The first season ended with a cliffhanger that saw Odokawa face to face with the actual killer. Will the anime return for season 2? Here's what we know.

Will There Be 'Odd Taxi' Season 2?

OLM, P.I.C.S., or any company related to the production of the anime has not confirmed 'Odd Taxi' season 2 yet. But since the anime ended in a cliffhanger, it is possible that the anime creators already had season 2 in mind. In terms of audience reception, there is no doubt that plenty of people would love to see the anime's return. The first season of the anime currently holds an amazing 8.70 rating on MyAnimeList with incredibly positive reviews. A manga adaptation written by Konomoto and illustrated by Takeichi Abaraya currently has two volumes published. If the manga exceeds the events depicted in the anime, it could be used as source material for season 2. However, the official Twitter handle of the show started a countdown through December 2021, which ended with the revelation that an Odd Taxi movie is coming. The countdown ended on December 25th, 2021, and reported an upcoming Odd Taxi Movie in April 2022 along with a trailer. The news was then confirmed by Crunchyroll soon after. The movie’s name is Eiga Odd Taxi: In The Woods. Check out the post below.

This movie could be one step closer to season 2 or a finale. Only time will tell. For now, we will continue to wait for further announcements and update this space once more information is available.

Odd Taxi Producer Teases Season 2

The producer of "Odd Taxi" has recently hinted at the possibility of future seasons for this unique anime series. During a special event promoting the movie's release, the film's producer, Hirofumi Ito, was asked about the possibility of a second or even a third season of the series. In response, Ito suggested, with a touch of humor, that the series might indeed continue with more seasons if the movie performs well.

The success of the "Odd Taxi" movie, "In The Woods," could open the door to further exploration of the series' universe. This is a common strategy in the world of anime and entertainment in general. Successful movies or additional content can breathe new life into a franchise, keeping fans engaged and excited about the story and its characters.

When Will' Odd Taxi' Season 2 Release?

'Odd Taxi' season 1 premiered on April 6, 2021, in Japan and ran until June 29, 2021. There is still no renewal announcement as of this writing, but if the anime gets renewed and enters production very soon, we might get season 2 by late 2023. The Odd Taxi movie was released on April 1st, 2022.

What Could Be The Plot Of 'Odd Taxi' Season 2?

Warning: Season 1 spoilers ahead.

In the first season, we found out that Odokawa suffers from a psychological condition called Visual agnosia. The condition causes Odokawa to perceive humans as animals. After Shirakawa saves Odokawa, the protagonist finally starts seeing humans as humans again. While recuperating in the hospital, Imai visits Odokawa and hands him the 100 million retrieved from the river, but Odokawa decides to give the money to Kuroda. Odokawa's condition is not the only shocking revelation before the season ended. We found who is truly behind Yuki's murder. It was no other than Sakura, the fourth cat in line for the Mystery Kiss audition. The season ended with Sakura getting into Odokawa's taxi. Odokawa may have already realized that the killer was that particular cat in his agnosia, but he can't identify Sakura in the human form. During a press release, it was revealed that the plot of the upcoming movie would be a "reconstruction" of the events of the 2021 series with a depiction of the events which take place after the series finale. We will likely find out if Odokawa will survive the encounter with Sakura. We are also looking forward to seeing Shirakawa and Odokawa's budding romance develop further, as well as Baba and Shibagaki's after the two decided to renew their relationship.
