Barack and Michelle Obama are producing an upcoming Netflix comedy series inspired by Trump’s 2016 presidential victory.

The former president and first lady are producing the new sketch comedy series under their Higher Ground Productions banner, which also produced the acclaimed documentary American Factory.

Titled The G Word with Adam Conover, the series will take a hilarious look into the government's inner workings, injecting humor and documentary elements to the supposedly placid operations.

Adam Conover

Conover is known for his work in Adam Ruins Everything, a semi-educational comedy series that combines comedy, history, and science to debunk widespread misconceptions in the everyday life.

Now, Conover will be taking his character to new heights as he is about to lead the Obamas' upcoming comedy series.

Conover took to Twitter to confirm the news.

In a tweet alongside an article about the series, the comedian said:

"Very happy to finally be able to share this news: I'm creating a new comedy series for Netflix about the federal government. It's called The G Word, and I can't wait to share it with you."

The series will be using 'fast-paced visual comedy' to reveal the 'profound power and complexity of the US government.' Viewers will be introduced to the heroic civil servants who make it work and will satirically tackle the shortcomings.

"The United States government affects our lives in countless ways, from the food we eat to the money in our bank accounts. But despite the many hours we spend obsessing over politics, almost none of us know the first thing about the massive organization those politicians are supposed to run," the show's official synopsis reads, adding how the word ‘government’ has become dirty that people would rather not talk or even think about.

The G Word with Adam Conover is loosely based on Michael Lewis’s best-selling book, The Fifth Risk. The book looks at the transition of Obama’s presidency to Trump, focusing on the Department of Energy, the Department of Agriculture, and the Department of Commerce.

The Obamas acquired the rights to the book right after setting up their Netflix production deal.

Lewis has always been very vocal in airing his criticisms of Trump. In a 2018 article published by The Guardian, Lewis described Trump as ‘the single worst business manager that’s ever occupied the office. He’s obsessed only with himself, he doesn’t manage anything’.

Lewis' works have been an inspiration to several successful films, including the adaptations Moneyball, The Big Short, and The Blind Side.

The G Word with Adam Conover is yet to announce a release date. However, the show's production is set to begin in 2021.
