Action franchises have a lot more probability of doing well, owing to the opportunity it provides to tell multiple stories and expand the narrative's universe in a new way. For months, the producers of the action film Nobody had been teasing fans about a possible sequel. Adding to the suspense build-up, the movie's writer and John Wick creator Derek Kolstad had earlier mentioned that he had the opening scene of the sequel figured out less than a month after the first one was released. Now, they can finally confirm that it is indeed coming along, ComicBook.com reports. Producer David Leitch, who also led Deadpool 2, confirmed that the script is currently in development.

In an interview with Collider, Leitch expressed the excitement the studio and crew members have for the sequel. “Oh, I think everyone's really excited about it,” he said. “Everyone involved is like, ‘Full steam ahead.’ We are in the script process, and I think we had so much fun making that. Kelly [McCormick] and I had a blast, the actors had a blast, the studio loved the results, and it's happening. I mean, I think it's happening as fast as we can make it happen.”

When asked if Leitch thought the world of Nobody really would have a comeback, the filmmaker expressed his confidence. “Yes, I do. I do, because there are these certain journeys that you go on, and they're just undeniable experiences for the people involved. And that was one of them. And I think all of us want to go back and play in that universe, and we want to see Bob [Odenkirk] bring that character to life again,” he said.

The film follows a John Wick-style plot where a suburban family man, Hutch Mansell (Bob Odenkirk) goes off-kilter after a couple of petty thieves burglarize his house. This unfortunate thieving incident unlocks his true character and he goes out to confront the Russian crime boss. With a promising premise to hold up the film, the critics and audience gave it rave reviews, getting hopes up for a sequel. The post-credit scene, especially, showed there was great potential for a sequel to be developed.

Both Odenkirk and Kolstad were excited thinking about the sequel even before they shot the first one. Comparing themselves to fascinated 11-year-olds, they decided to indulge themselves in this fantasy. “..Everyone encouraged everyone to paint themselves in the corner and then lean on everyone else to find their way out, so that you have something where you're like, ‘I don't care if anyone refers to anything I've ever written as a guilty pleasure because those are my favorite f-cking movies,’” Kolstad mentioned.

Kolstad concluded his thought by adding, “With Nobody 2, 3, 4, or however they want to do, it's going to be Bob Odenkirk bringing a soul and levity to a character that oftentimes is just simply a faceless denizen of badass-dom. What he brings to it is love and hope and joy and that frailty of the smirk. Dude, I want to do this one forever. I know we always say those in the press but, God damn it, this is true.”

Nobody is currently streaming on HBO Max.
