'Bridgerton' Star Nicola Coughlan Shares Image Of Sunburn On Her Instagram Story, Calls It 'Bridger-tan'

This comes about a week after Netflix announced that the production for the show's third season—focusing on Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington—is underway.

With Regency dresses, parasols, and umbrellas exuding old-world charm and royalty, Netflix's Bridgerton attempts to recreate the yesteryear setting in the show. The only problem is adapting the bygone era's style amidst the current heatwave. Nicola Coughlan recently shared a picture on her Instagram story, showing a sunburn from filming in the sun, Buzzfeed reported.

Wittily calling it "Bridger-tan", the actress shared an image of the sunburn she suffered due to wearing Regency dresses. "And so…the Bridgertan* returns," Coughlan captioned the Instagram story, posted on July 29. "Sunburn you get while wearing a regency dress," she added in the picture.

As dermatologists remind patients eternally, the best way to stop sunburns and tans is to cover up and stay away from sunlight, or preferably stand under a shade. Considering Bridgerton's filming schedules though, the best bet would be to use a sunscreen. The sunburn could also be because Coughlan is getting more camera exposure, considering she is the main character this season with Luke Newton’s Colin Bridgerton.

The cast had announced that the show started filming about a week ago, with a video showing the actors raising two fingers before flipping up to three fingers indicating the third season was in progress. In the third season, Colin Bridgerton will finally pay attention to Penelope Featherington, blossoming their romance. However, Penelope decides to forgo her crush on Colin and open herself up to the marriage market.

The Netflix synopsis, according to ELLE reads, “Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) has finally given up on her long-held crush on Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) after hearing his disparaging words about her last season. She has, however, decided it’s time to take a husband, preferably one who will provide her with enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, far away from her mother and sisters. But lacking in confidence, Penelope’s attempts on the marriage mart fail spectacularly.”

While the next season will explore the nuances of Colin’s and Penelope’s relationship, it will also confront the grittiness between Eloise (Claudia Jessie) and Penelope, the two best friends. Additionally, now that Eloise knows about Penelope being Lady Whistledown, it will create some friction pertaining to the discreet nature of her identity. Meanwhile, Colin is completely clueless about what is happening because he’s been away. According to the synopsis, “Colin has returned from his summer travels with a new look and a serious sense of swagger. But he’s disheartened to realize that Penelope, the one person who always appreciated him as he was, is giving him the cold shoulder.”

Apart from the lead pair—Coughlan and Newton—the cast also includes Jonathan Bailey (Anthony Bridgerton), Simone Ashley (Kate Bridgerton née Sharma), Claudia Jessie (Eloise Bridgerton), Luke Thompson (Benedict Bridgerton), Phoebe Dynevor (Daphne Bridgerton), Adjoa Andoh (Lady Danbury), and Golda Rosheuvel (Queen Charlotte). Hopefully, Charithra Chandran (Edwina Sharma) and Shelly Conn (Mary Sharma) also make an appearance in the new season.

Bridgerton Seasons 1 and 2 are streaming now on Netflix.
