In the first trailer, there is mention of a multiverse, which could easily mean that Maguire and Garfield could actually make an appearance in the new film.
The new Spider-Man movie is getting close to its release date. Spider-Man: No Way Home is the third installment and the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), starring Tom Holland and Zendaya. There have been rumors flying around that there may be some surprising guest appearances in the third film from two particular people who laid the foundation for the success of Spider-Man as Peter Parker before Tom Holland succeeded them. But these rumors may turn out to be true, which would mean that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield could actually appear in the new Spider-Man film.
In No Way Home, the story picks off from the previous installment after Peter Parker's identity as Spider-Man was exposed by Mysterio. Now, everyone knows who Spider-Man is and this turns Parker's life upside down. He ends up asking Dr. Stephen Strange for help to know if it would be possible to turn back time to before anyone knew of his identity as Spider-Man. Dr. Strange uses his magic and casts a spell to help Parker out but things don't go as planned. There are dangerous repercussions now that the course of space and time has been messed with, forcing Parker to learn what it truly means to be Spider-Man.
At least, this is what we see in the storyline of the first trailer that was released. In the trailer, we also meet Doctor Octopus and the reprise of other villains including Green Goblin and Electro. There is also a mention of a multiverse, which could easily mean that Maguire and Garfield could actually make an appearance in the new film. The 2018 animated spin-off Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has a similar premise and we meet multiple Spider-Men from other parallel universes. This might as well be true for the Spider-man: No Way Home film as well and include fan-favorite characters.
A few months ago, there was a leaked image of Maguire and Garfield in Spider-Man suits in front of a blue screen. The picture has already been taken down but Garfield has refused to comment on its authenticity and has been denying his involvement in the project quite poorly. But as we get closer to the release date, more information is being acquired that cannot deny their involvement in the movie. It is being speculated that all these rumors will be answered in the follow-up trailer that will be released soon, as reported by BGR, who has been able to confirm that the two actors will appear in a future No Way Home trailer.
"It has the money shot," a source supposedly told the insider. "Tom Holland’s Spider-Man fighting the Sinister Six alongside his predecessors, Maguire and Garfield." Including the two actors and revealing their appearance in the movie is a great strategy that will definitely work in bringing more fans to watch the film in the theatres. The movie is set for a theatrical as well as release on streaming platforms on December 17. The second trailer, with the surprise reveal of the preceding Peter Parkers, is set to be published much closer to the release date.
