Netflix's 'The Witcher' Season 3: Everything We Know So Far

Netflix's 'The Witcher' Season 3: Everything We Know So Far

Following a Witcher who kills monsters for money, Geralt of Rivia stumbles in his path multiple times onlt to fall the feet of destiny.

Fantasy fiction rarely has to go so hard, but The Witcher on Netflix completely demolished that narrative. With human elements that set the show tonally apart, the stunts, character dynamics and myriad of fantastical elements are what make people flock to the show. No wonder then that people have been waiting longingly for the third season of The Witcher. Here’s everything we know so far.

Is there a third season for The Witcher?

Netflix has confirmed that there will be a third season for the acclaimed show. Even before the second season came out, the streaming platform confirmed the existence of a third season of the show. What’s more, is that the creators are not planning on making this the last installment. They have confirmed that if Netflix would allow, there would be a fourth season, something they have already started mapping.

What is the plot of The Witcher Season 3?

According to the plot summary given by Netflix, “As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it. Entrusted with Ciri's magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl's untapped powers; instead, they discover they've landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line – or risk losing each other forever.”

TL;DR Yennefer, Geralt and Ciri work towards being somewhat of a functional family after Yennefer betrayed and then saved them in quick succession. With prophecies weaving dark paths for all of them, destiny brought them together for a reason. In the next season, we see how the politics before and after the Conjunction affect our characters today.

What is the cast of The Witcher Season 3?

Henry Cavill as Geralt, Freya Allan as Princess Cirila and Anya Chalotra as Yennefer will definitely be reprising their roles as main characters on the show. Additionally, MyAnna Buring as Tissaia, John Batey as Jaskier, Eamon Farran as Cahir, and Mimi Ndiweni as Fringilla will also be coming back as supporting characters for the show. While Anna Shaffer as Triss, Kim Bodnia as Vesemir, Paul Bullion as Lambert, Yasen Atour as Coen will be bringing the Witcher pack back.

Of course, with things in Aretuza becoming problematic, Graham McTavish as Dijkstra, Lars Mikkelson as Stregobor, and Mahesh Jadu as Vilgefortz will also show up to make things difficult for our protagonists. Additionally, four new cast members including Robbie Amell as Gallatin, Meng’er Zhang as Milva, Hugh Skinner as Prince Radovid and Christelle Elwin as Mistle will be making their first appearances in the show with this season.

While Adjoa Andoh’s Nenneke is an important character in the books, it is unclear whether she will be coming back for the next season. We can only hope her wisdom helps Ciri in the future.

What is the release date of The Witcher Season 3?

There has been no news from Netflix at the moment but considering that both seasons 1 and 2 came out in December in 2019 and 2021 respectively, we can expect this pattern to go on and see the third season in December of next year, 2023.
