Teenage Bounty Hunters is a teen comedy-drama created by Kathleen Jordan for Netflix. The story follows fraternal twin sisters Sterling and Blair Wesley, who are still in high school but are forced to take on bounty hunting for grizzled bounty hunter Bowser Simmons after denting their father's pickup truck. They take up the job in order to pay for the truck's repair without their parents' knowledge.
The show is relatively unknown but did manage to make it to the Nielsen Streaming Rankings Top 10 the week of its release on August 14, 2020. The show was, however, well-received by viewers. As for what's in store for the future of this show, here's what you need to know:
Renewal Status: Canceled
The show was initially titled Slu**y Teenage Bounty Hunters when it was still in development in 2019, but the "slu**y" was later dropped. “We’re not here to judge, y’all,” Jordan and executive producer Robert Sudduth said of the earlier title. “We’re here to embrace the nuance. This show is really about two young women trying to live their lives by their own rules, haters be damned. We can’t wait for the world to meet Sterling and Blair. And as for the title, ‘Sex Positive Teenage Bounty Hunters’ didn’t have the same ring.”
The show, as reported by Variety, was to be about "sixteen-year-old fraternal twin sisters Sterling and Blair who dive into the world of bail-skipping baddies while still navigating the high stakes of teenage love and sex. Sterling and Blair plan to excel in all aforementioned extracurriculars, despite the watchful eye of their buttoned-up community."
Despite its seemingly good reception by the audience, the show was canceled just two months after it premiered. Deadline reported that Netflix goes straight-to-series on all of its projects, bypassing a pilot stage. So when a show is canceled after only the first season, it is equivalent to other networks passing on pilots. The show did end on an interesting cliffhanger, but even that was not enough to keep the show going.
The show starred Maddie Phillips as Sterling and Anjelica Bette Fellini as Blair. They team up with experienced bounty hunter Bowser Jenkins played by Kadeem Hardison. Jordan and Sudduth along with Jenji Kohan, Tara Herrmann, and Black McCormick executively produced the 10-episode series. Jesse Peretz directed and also served as executive producer.
