'Kate' is among Netflix's most expensive acquisitions back in 2017. The streamer snatched the script against other eager bidders for a $25M budget for the production of the action film.
The film is directed by Oscar nominee Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, who helmed 'The Huntsman: Winter’s War' starring Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth. The script was written by Umair Aleem, who previously worked on 'Extraction,' one of Netflix's biggest action films released ever.

'Kate' is poised to release on Netflix on September 10, 2021. The action film will be available worldwide to Netflix subscribers.
'Kate' entered pre-production in October 2017, after Netflix won the bidding for the highly coveted action project. However, the cast and crew were not able to start filming until September 2019. Filming lasted for two months and wrapped up in late November 2019.
Filming takes place in Thailand, Tokyo, Japan, and Los Angeles, California.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays the titular role of Kate, a ruthless assassin who gets irreversibly poisoned while taking a job in Tokyo. With only 24 hours left to live, Kate sets out on a mission to exact revenge. She is intent on finding out who poisoned her, then kill them before she dies.
Along the way, she forms an unexpected bond with a teenage girl named Ani (Miku Martineau), the daughter of one of her past victims. Together, the two embark on a dangerous quest filled with bullets and deadly enemies.

In November 2019, it was announced that the all-female Japanese rock band Band-Maid would appear in the 'Kate.' Fans of the band are already looking forward to seeing their idols in the Netflix film.
David Leitch, Kelly McCormick, Bryan Unkeless, and Scott Morgan are producing the film.
