In just the first three days, the show was watched globally for 30.34 million hours.
First Kill is the American sapphic supernatural teen drama series that was developed for Netflix. It is based on the short story by Victoria Schwab of the same name. It follows the complicated love story of Juliette and Calliope. One of them is a vampire and the other's a vampire hunter who fall for each other. They are both ready to make their first kill and go for each other's throats in more than one way.
The show received a lot of mixed reactions with some viewers expressing their excitement at having a lesbian-vampire show while others expressed their discontent with the poor writing of the show that has a lot of potential. Here's what's in store for the future of the show:
The series premiered on June 10, 2022, on Netflix. In just the first three days, the show was watched globally for 30.34 million hours making it to Netflix's Top 10. The show is on the right track for renewal but it is too early to tell whether the series will be coming back or not. Netflix is also notorious for canceling lesbian-led shows despite the shows doing well, so fans of the show are keeping a close track of the performance of the show. When Netflix canceled I Am Not Okay With This, The Society and Atypical fans were not pleased and pointed out how gay-led shows did not bear the brunt of cancellation.
Netflix usually renews or cancels a show after judging its performance for the first 28 days. With a few more weeks left, we will have to wait and see if the show gets renewed or not.
In the first season, we saw a lot of action go down in the renewed battle between humans and monsters in Savannah, Georgia. The budding relationship between Juliette and Calliope faced hurdle after hurdle. (Spoiler alert!) The last straw was when Cal's brother, Apollo, was killed by Juliette's sister, Elinor, and was then turned into a vampire by Julliette to save his life. The first season ended with Cal's mother rescuing Apollo and taking him to Oliver, Juliette's older brother. He is Elinor's twin brother, determined to avenge his banishment from the Fairmont family.
The plot has been left open to various possibilities. Cal and Juliette's relationship has soured but it was well established that the two are connected in a much deeper way. With Elinor in jail, Apollo in a vampire's care, and Oliver set to destroy his family's legacy, there are so many things left to explore in future seasons.
Sarah Catherine Hook as Juliette and Imani Lewis as Cal are sure to return if the show gets another season. Talking to Cosmopolitan about a potential Season 2 the two lead actors shared they would love to see it happen. "We're all fingers crossed," Lewis stated. "So I'm encouraging people to stream First Kill, all of the season as soon as possible so we can get a season two." Hook added, "Based on the ending of First Kill, as far as Juliette is concerned I'm really hoping for a dark moment for her. I'd like to see a different side to her where she loses her humanity and takes over the Elinor role for a minute, and [for her to] just be the monster that everyone wants her to be."
Elizabeth Mitchell as Margot, Juliette's mother, Aubin Wise as Talia, Cal's mother, Gracie Dzienny as Elinor, Dominic Goodman as Apollo, Phillip Mullings, Jr. as Theo, and Jason R. Moore as Jack will also probably be coming back to the show. Additionally, Will Swenson as Sebastian, Jonas Dylan Allen as Ben, and Dylan McNamara as Oliver, will also most likely be reprising their roles.
The first season of the show was confirmed in October 2020 with the shoot beginning at the end of 2021. We had the show on Netflix in 2022. If the show is renewed at the end of the 28-day wait period, we can expect a similar timeline. The second season could premiere early in 2024 or if we're lucky, in late 2023.
