Netflix Adds ‘Must-See’ $411 Million Action Film Described As ‘irresistible fun’

‘Irresistible fun’ is the description of the thrilling Idris Elba film that Netflix has added to its library.

Although it was first released in 2013, the film is set in 2025. The action movie powerfully depicts humanity’s impending annihilation by terrible sea monsters.

It comes as Netflix keeps its selection of titles up to date by adding a number of new titles each month. Additionally, the streaming service eliminates a lot of TV series and films, which always surprises us.

The film, which was directed by Guillermo del Toro and starred Idris Elba, takes us to a near-future Earth where a terrible event has occurred.

On the Pacific Ocean seabed, a spatial fissure known as the Breach has opened, releasing massive sea monsters called Kaiju.

By breaking through sea walls and physically tearing buildings apart with their claws and sheer mass, they brutally destroy large port cities.

To retaliate, humanity joins forces to construct enormous humanoid machines known as Jaegers, each of which is co-piloted by two people whose minds are connected via a procedure known as the Drift.

Under the command of Marshal Stacker Pentecost (Elba), the film revolves around washed-up pilot Raleigh Becket (Charlie Hunnam), who is dragged out of retirement to co-pilot the ancient Jaeger ‘Gipsy Danger’ with rookie pilot Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi).

The film had made an incredible $411.5 million globally as of early 2021. The movie in question is Pacific Rim, of course. On July 1st, Tuesday, it became available on Netflix US.

Its trailer is seen below.

Rotten Tomatoes critics gave the film a strong 72% rating across 294 reviews, while viewers gave it a slightly higher rating of 77% across over 100,000 reviews.

The general view among critics was: “It may sport more style than substance, but Pacific Rim is a solid modern creature feature bolstered by fantastical imagery and an irresistible sense of fun.”

“Pacific Rim is the embodiment of hard work and true skill from the director and writers,” one admirer declared, calling it “an absolute must-watch.”

“The CGI is well crafted and the plot doesn’t cut corners. It’s a fun watch that sticks with you like nostalgia.”

It has received a 6.9 out of 10 rating on IMDB.

One person said it was ‘epic in every proportion,’ while another concluded: “Total escapism done with excellent design attention and detail.”

With the release of Pacific Rim: Uprising in 2018, which takes place ten years after the first, Pacific Rim became a franchise.

It centers on Idris Elba’s character’s son, Jake Pentecost (John Boyega), as he re-enlists in the Pan Pacific Defense Corps to confront a fresh Kaiju threat.

In 2021, a 14-episode animated series called Pacific Rim: The Black was released on Netflix.

It centers on two siblings who, in a Kaiju-ravaged Australia, operate their own stolen Jaeger.

Netflix is currently streaming Pacific Rim.
