The amount of fantasy fiction content Netflix has been rolling out is brilliant with The Witcher, Shadow and Bone, Lucifer and finally The Sandman making a mark on audiences. The show is based on Neil Gaiman’s graphic novel of the same name, Esquire reported. While the legend of mythology did serve as the author of the comics, he was also the executive producer on the show.

The show follows the Sandman (I know, riveting), or Dream who now has to go across timelines and worlds subduing chaos after he was imprisoned for more than a century. The wizard sets out to look for his lost equipment. The first season adapted only 16 issues of the 75 comic issue run. Spanning 10 episodes there is definitely more potential for the show to be continued.

Will there be a second season of The Sandman?

While Netflix hasn’t made any confirmations regarding a second season, the executive producer David S. Goyer confirmed this week that he was already at work on the script for Season Two. Additionally, the showrunner Allan Heinberg mentioned that he is ready to keep the machine churning. "We’ve got as many [seasons] as they’ll let us have," he said at the premiere in London. "If enough viewers show up, we can go for quite a long while. We want to do all of it, we want a spin-off miniseries. We’d love to make it for as long as they’ll have us.”

What is the plot of the second season of The Sandman?

As mentioned above, only a sliver of Gaiman’s work has been adapted for now, the next installment titled Seas of Mist in the comics is some of his best work for The Sandman.

Possibly next season, audiences will see Dream’s family become a recurring nuisance in his life, while Gwendoline Christie's Lucifer, is working up something truly diabolic. The storyworld has been set up now, so the studio can definitely go bigger next season, probably sowing some seeds to ripen in another spin-off series.

What is the cast of the second season of The Sandman?

It is certain that the following cast members will be reprising their roles. Of course, the protagonist Tom Sturridge (Dream) will be driving the narrative in the next season.

He will be joined by Jenna Coleman (Johanna Constantine), Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Death), Vanesu Samunyai (Rose Walker), Eddie Karanja (Jed Walker), Patton Oswalt (Matthew the Raven), Sanjeev Bhaskar (Cain), Asim Chaudhry (Abel) and Razane Jammal (Lyta Hall).

When will the second season of The Sandman be released?

Since the show relies heavily on fantastical elements, it can spend quite a while in the production process. And Netflix hasn’t confirmed a second season yet, so it is explicable that the show will come out at least a year after the announcement.

Season 1 of The Sandman is currently streaming on Netflix.
