Fans are not happy to wait for this long for the movie they have loved so much. However, looks like, they might have to wait a bit longer!
The wait has been the longest and fans now really want to know whether waiting for 'National Treasure' to make a comeback is worthwhile or not. The famous movie franchise's production has been stalled after its first sequel. This Disney's adventure film was a huge commercial success at the box office. However, the movie did receive criticism from the critics leading to mixed reviews from fans as well. But, admit it or not, this movie became the best guilty-pleasure of the 2000s.
Let's refreshen the storyline a bit— 'National Treasure' is a story about a historian and amateur cryptologist, Benjamin Franklin Gates, played by Nicolas Cage. He is looking for a lost treasure, and while his search was on, he got to know about a secret code written behind the Declaration Of Independence of America. Those codes consisted of hints and clues that lead them towards the national treasure.
The movie released in 2004 and garnered a massive amount of $347.5 million against a budget of $100 million. The second movie, 'National Treasure: Book Of Secrets' grossed even more than the first one in 2007, approximately collecting $457.4 million worldwide. However, even after having two successful movies back to back, the third one didn't make it to the theaters. The question is, will it ever get a renewal? Let's find out.
Even though the third installment is still not out, fans would like to keep their hopes and doors open for its release. Disney also talked about the same and said that they are still searching the script for the installment. More recently, Disney's CEO Bob Iger discussed in an interview that fans should not give up their hope. He also suggested that the producer of the film Jerry Bruckheimer also wants to make another film. He also shared that there have been discussions about the third installment since 2016, but since the team is yet to give thumbs up, he doesn't want to confirm anything as for now.
It is even harder for actors to not talk about the movie they have been a part of for so long and therefore, Nicolas Cage did address the questions and justifies the delay in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. He said that it is difficult to find scripts for a movie like National Treasure. He also said that since the movie concerns historical events, the team has to be very accurate with the facts, as facts cannot be altered. Having said that, Nicolas also mentioned that there is a lot of pressure for the story to be entertaining, which is obvious to expect from a movie that has performed well in the past.
Therefore, the biggest challenge is to find the correct script to produce that will match the current scenario of the world. Nicolas also hinted that fans shouldn't give up hope for the third installment as his team is working on the third part of the movie.
Definitely not soon. The fact that the team is yet to find the right script, it may take a few more years for the third installment to really happen. But, as they said, the idea of having the third installment is not entirely dead, and it may happen someday.
In an interview, Jon Turteltaub, the director of National Treasure and The Meg said, “When National Treasure first got made, there was a lot more money to go around. Everybody got paid nicely. The problem with getting the third one made isn’t the people who are getting paid saying, “I’m not doing it unless you pay me a lot!” It’s really that Disney feels they have other films they want to make that they think will make them more money. I think they’re wrong. I think they’re right about the movies they’re making; they’re obviously doing a really good job at making great films. I just think this would be one of them, and they don’t quite realize how much the Internet is begging for a third National Treasure.”
National Treasure and National Treasure: Book of Secrets will ALWAYS and forever be my favorite movies! pic.twitter.com/7QaguE8HBc— Alissa (@AlissaFaith18) May 29, 2019
So I’m writing low quality trash 4 Thrs’s show, and watching “National Treasure Book of Secrets”. Why can’t they make more of these? Sure it’s fiction with historical pieces. But it’s goooood. And hell, Nick Cage will do any movie :)— Dave & Jimmy (@daveandjimmy) May 29, 2019
I have spent the last 12 years waiting to know what was on page 47 of the President’s Book of Secrets, and I will spend the next 12 refreshing the National Treasure 2 Wikipedia page until there is actual news under the “Possible sequel” section. https://t.co/UAMmA6n52z— Ella Brockway (@ellabrockway) May 25, 2019
I’m still upset we don’t have a National Treasure 3. Like how will I ever know what is on page 47 of the President’s Book of Secrets????— Ch•ai•s (Chase) (@chais_michael) May 9, 2019
The fact that they still haven’t made a National Treasure 3 about whatever was on page 47 in The Book Of Secrets (it’s probably about Area 51) still aggravates me to this day— Tall & Skinny (@joshy_squashy20) April 3, 2019
I haven’t seen so many iconic movies but I have seen National Treasure and National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets at least 15 times each so I think those things cancel out— Ted Rumsworth (@ernbechs) March 6, 2019
