Is Narcos: Mexico going to return for a third season? Let's explore.
Narcos: Mexico season 2 was released on Netflix on the 13th February. Fans were eagerly awaiting this new season and quickly binged all 10 episodes. Now they are left wanting more. Are we going to get a third season of Narcos: Mexico? Let's explore.
The third season of Narcos: Mexico has not yet been ordered by Netflix. However, it is way to soon to assume that it has not been renewed for a new season. Netflix usually waits for a month after a release of a show to make a decision on renewal. However, despite the show not yet being renewed, it is being reported that casting calls are already being made for new characters. In terms of a release date, some sources are saying that filming is expected to begin sometime next month and will end in July 2020. This could mean a summer 2021 release date for the latest.
Season 2 saw the end of Félix Gallardo’s reign as drug lord of Mexico. He is captured and taken into custody for his crimes. But is this the end of Félix? After being captured Félix told his adversary Walt (Scoot McNairy) that, by capturing him, he’s only caused a bigger problem: “Now you’ll see what happens when the cage breaks open and all the animals run free."
Eric Newman, the show's executive producer spoke about what Félix told Walt to TV Guide. He said: "You can take out Pablo Escobar, or the Cali cartel, or Felix Gallardo and feel some sense of victory, but in reality, all you’ve done is swallow the spider to catch the fly.
“We all know how that ends; it just continues to accelerate into the chaos, which is very much the theme of this season. And so, to end with a moment where you realize we’ve accomplished nothing except for unleashing these animals, for the most part, [allows us to] begin the next chapter in the drug war, over which we’ll have less control than we had previously.”
Newman also teased that new drug lord Amado Carrillo Fuentes could rise up to take Félix's place.
Diego Luna's time as Félix Gallardo seems to be over. With Félix now behind bars it's unlikely that he would return for any major role in the third season. Rafa Caro Quintero (Tenoch Huerta), Don Neto (Joaquin Cosio) and Isabella (Teresa Ruiz) have all also been imprisoned and will likely not make a return.
But the third season may not be full of only new characters. We can expect Scoot McNairy to return as DEA agent Walt Breslin. We can also expect Flavio Medina to return as Juan Abrego of the Gulf Cartel.
There is no trailer or teaser as of now but feel free to enjoy the trailer for the last season.
