Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L Jackson will be getting back to their roles for 'The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard' along with the Oscar-winning actor, Morgan Freeman.
Lionsgate is soon going to bring an action-packed 'Hitman's Bodyguard' sequel 'The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard', as reported by Deadline.
The first 'Hitman's Bodyguard' came out in 2017 and starred Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L Jackson. The two actors will be getting back to their roles for the sequel. Another person that will be joining the film will be Oscar-winning actor, Morgan Freeman. The first film did not get great reviews from the critics but grossed a decent amount at the box office.
The first film was an action comedy film about a bodyguard who is hired to protect the life of a hitman, who is set to testify at the International Criminal Court. The film was directed by Patrick Hughes. Now, the sequel of the film, 'The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard' brings back Ryan and Samuel along with Salma Hayek. According to recent reports, Frank Grillo has also joined the cast.
Not much is revealed about the film or about the role which Morgan Freeman would be playing. The apparent plot of the film will show Ryan and Samuel teaming up with Hayek, who is the wife of the Hitman in the first film. The three would go on a mission along the Amalfi Coast in Italy. The film is going to start shooting in March with Hughes returning to direct the sequel too.
Morgan Freeman had won an Oscar for his role in 'Million Dollar Baby'. The actor is very popular especially for the soothing voice that he has lent for various documentaries and TV commercials. However, the actor was recently accused of sexual harassment by women who worked with him for the film 'Going In Style', as reported by Screen Rant.
The actor had denied all the allegations and his lawyer has asked CNN to retract their report. Despite all the controversies, the actor is still a part of upcoming projects such as 'Angel Has Fallen' which he will appear along with Gerard Butler, 'The Manuscript' and the 'Cold Warriors'.
'Hitman's Bodyguard' released on August 10, 2017, and was able to give a decent performance. In an earlier interview with The Gate, the director of the film had spoken about making 'Hitman's Bodyguard'. He spoke about balancing action and comedy.
"Yeah. I’ve certainly always been drawn to action comedies, as a filmmaker, and as a fan. One of my favorite movies of all time is Midnight Run, which I think is a beautiful balance of action and comedy, and I feel like it’s a nice place to work within whenever you’re working in either genre, " he said.
The director also revealed that he always wanted to make a 'Buddy action comedy' movie. Hughes said that the films of this genre are fun and just like him, others will also be able to love unto itself. "John Hughes was a master of that. I mean, you could draw the comparison between The Hitman’s Bodyguard and Midnight Run, but you can also look to Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, " he said.
"As funny as that is and you can have all of this fun and games with the characters in those films, they’re also tragic kinds of stories when you think about them. There is a real heart and soul to these movies in their telling. They center around characters that are in need of redemption, and I think – if anything – the one thing I really wanted to bring to Hitman’s Bodyguard was to bring that heart and soul to the telling, so it wasn’t just two guys dodging bullets and making wisecracks, " he added.

Talking about the characters played by Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L Jackson, the director said, "Essentially Ryan is playing the straight man here, and even when he’s the hero he’s usually not the straight man. It was about creating a contrast between what we all know they can do and what works for the characters here. Darius Kincaid – Samuel L. Jackson’s character – is operating from a sense of instinct. He’s going to go with his heart and he just does whatever he wants. Everything he does is just off instinct," he said.
The director further spoke about Michael Bryce's character being more analytical and how the difference between both the character's personalities bring contrast to the film. Hughes was all praises for both the actors and maybe that's why he is keen on getting hem back together for the sequel. "Obviously, they’re two incredibly talented actors who are icons unto themselves," he said.
The fans are super excited for the film to come out as it has been a while since we saw a hilarious action film. We only hope that this sequel is able to get better results than 2017's 'HItman's Bodyguard'. As the film goes further into production, more details about the film will be revealed.
