'Moonfall': Release Date, Plot, Cast, Trailer, And More

The latest doomsday film is giving a new spin to the expression "the sky is falling." Watch the trailer here.

There have been a lot of disaster movies imagining the end of the Earth in many disastrous ways. The latest doomsday film is giving a new spin to the expression "the sky is falling."

Lionsgate's Moonfall is a sci-fi film that apparently promises the destruction of the Earth at a never-before-seen scale. As the title suggests, the film is about the scary scenario when the Moon ends up...falling after a mysterious force pushes the natural satellite out of its orbit. It then hurtles towards our planet, all set to collide, threatening planetary annihilation. This sci-fi film comes from the creators of Independence Day, 2012, The Day After Tomorrow, and Stargate. So we can expect a thrilling movie packed with adventure and action.

What Is The Plot Of Moonfall?

As per the official Moonfall website

With mere weeks before impact and the world on the brink of annihilation, NASA executive and former astronaut Jo Fowler is convinced she has the key to saving us all – but only one astronaut from her past, Brian Harper and conspiracy theorist K.C. Houseman believe her. These unlikely heroes will mount an impossible last-ditch mission into space, leaving behind everyone they love, only to find out that our Moon is not what we think it is.

The film is co-written and directed by Roland Emmerich, who was behind other doomsday films, including Independence Day and 2012, among others which he also wrote and directed. The other writers of the film include Harald Kloser (2012, 10,000 B.C.) and Spenser Cohen (Extinction, The Driver). Emmerich's co-founded film production company, Centropolis Entertainment, is producing the film. It had a budget of $150 million, making it the biggest-budget independent film ever assembled.
