This article was recently reviewed and is up to date as of June 8, 2021.
Prepare for another round of love, laughter, and heartaches for 'Modern Love' is coming back to bring us more stories from real-life people.
'Modern Love' is a romantic comedy anthology series based on the New York Times column of the same name.
The first season was an incredible roller coaster ride of heartfelt anecdotes, and we can't wait to find out what's next for the show. Here is everything we know.
Renewal Status: Renewed
Yes, 'Modern Love' has been officially renewed for season 2! The renewal was announced back in 2019 through the show's official social media page.
"You can never have 2 much love! We’ll be back for a second season with all-new #ModernLove stories!"
Back then, fans have been expecting season 2 to release sometime in 2020. Unfortunately, this did not happen since the show has not started shooting until late 2020.
In November 2020, the cast and crew were spotted filming scenes in Stoneybatter in north Dublin, Ireland, while Anna Paquin (True Blood) and Garret Hedlund (On The Road) were simultaneously filming scenes in upstate New York.
The second season of 'Modern Love' will arrive on Amazon on Friday, August 13, 2021. All of the eight half-hour episodes will be released at once on the streaming platform.
The first season featured big stars including Anne Hathaway, Tina Fey, John Slattery, Dev Patel, and even Irish star Andrew Scott. Since 'Modern Love' is an anthology, we are expecting all new faces for season 2.
'The Social Network' star Jesse Eisenberg is confirmed to appear in season 2 for an episode set in Bosnia. Aside from starring in the anthology series, he will also sit as the writer and director of that particular episode.
Back in November, The Daily Mail spotted Garrett Hedlund and Anna Paquin on the set of Amazon Prime. They were joined by an adorable baby co-star, and it looks like they are filming a birthday party scene.
The rest of the confirmed season 2 cast members are:
Gbenga Akinnagbe, Susan Blackwell, Lucy Boynton, Tom Burke, Zoe Chao, Maria Dizzia, Minnie Driver, newcomer Grace Edwards, Dominique Fishback, Kathryn Gallagher, Kit Harington, Garrett Hedlund, Telci Huynh, Nikki M. James, Aparna Nancherla, Larry Owens, Zane Pais, Anna Paquin, Isaac Powell, Ben Rappapor, Milan Ray, Jack Reynor, Miranda Richardson, Marquis Rodriguez, James Scully, Zuzanna Szadkowski, Lulu Wilson, Don Wycherley, and Jeena Yi.
Tobias Menzies and Sophie Okonedo are also confirmed to join the season 2 cast.
'Modern Love' is an anthology series, so we are not expecting season 2 to pick up on events from season 1. It will, no doubt, still feature similar stories of romance and heartbreak based on The New York Times column.
Season 2 will be widening its scope and will feature stories in different parts of the world. So far, we've already confirmed Ireland, Bosnia, and New York among the places to be highlighted in the next season.
“Being given a green light to proceed with Modern Love is a great opportunity for us to continue to tell stories of love while opening up the series into new cities and worlds. The possibilities are truly endless," Writer, director, and executive producer John Carney told The New York Times.
“Subsequent seasons can really branch out and dig deep into what it means to love in this complicated world. It’s incredible news for everyone involved in the series, and we are dizzy with possibilities moving forward.”
There is no official trailer yet, but the wait shouldn't be that long. Enjoy this season 1 trailer in the meantime. We will update this page immediately once Prime Video releases the official trailer.
