Milo Ventimiglia stole every young girl's heart as bad boy Jess Mariano in Gilmore Girls. He then went on to star in lead roles as part of various hit TV shows. Since 2016, Ventimiglia has been a part of the hit NBC show, This Is Us as Jack Pearson. The sixth and final season of the show premiered on January 4. His performance in the series has been so remarkable that fans see Jack before they see Milo.

"I can’t take Jack’s face off," Ventimiglia told Good Housekeeping. "I wear it every day. Even though I, Milo, was here before Jack, I can’t take off the association. So when people out on the streets see me, first they see Jack and then I have to patiently let them know that, no, hey, I’m Milo." Of course, the actor is his own person. Here are some things that fans and others alike may not know about him.

1. He was supposed to have a different stage name

Milo Ventimiglia's name is now well known. It is unique and has a cool ring to it once you get used to pronouncing it. This is one of the things that sets him apart as well. But when he first started his career, Ventimiglia's agent tried to convince him to change his name to just Milo Vent. He obviously decided to keep his real name and thank god for that.

2. If he wasn't an actor, he would have joined the military

Ventimiglia has been nominated for the Emmy Awards, Critics' Choice Awards, People's Choice Awards, and has won two Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance in This Is Us. He also gave us iconic characters like Jess and  Peter Petrelli on the NBC series, Heroes. It's great that he chose acting as his career. But if it had gone another way he was looking at two other career options. "Doctor and military life were my other choices. acting ultimately won out," he said in a Q&A on Reddit.

3. He does not drink

Unlike his character on the show This Is Us, Ventimiglia does not drink at all. "I’m not an alcoholic, so I don’t think I’m like him in that way," he said about his character and went on to say, "My parents didn’t drink, and it was never anything I was raised around, so it just, it never factored into my life." He does not smoke either.

4. He is a vegetarian

Ventimiglia has been a vegetarian his entire life. His parents were vegetarians as well. They raised him, his two sisters, and their dog meat-free as well. Other than a few rebellious bites of meat when he was a teenager to make sure he was not missing out, he has been a Lacto-vegetarian well into his adult life, he revealed

5. He is not Sylvester Stallone's son

If you looked up Sylvester Stallone's son on Google, it shows pictures of Ventimiglia with the Rocky star. You may then think about their similar crooked smile and be led to believe that Ventimiglia is, in fact, actually Stallone's son. But they are not actually related by blood. However, Ventimiglia did play his son in the 2006 movie Rocky Balboa

6. He is a photographer

Ventimiglia has other creative pursuits as well. He has been a part of projects as a director, producer, and writer as well. Additionally, he is also an avid photographer. You can look at his Instagram for some of the stunning shots he has taken. But he briefly took a break from the app several years ago. "It started as a place [for] a collective group of photographers and artists to share their work, and their lives," he explained about the app at the time. "And at a certain point — after doing it for three years — I saw it change." He then added, "Nobody was looking at the photos. They were asking me about my acting jobs. And I kinda went, ‘Oh, man.’ It felt like it’d lost what I’d grown to love about it as a photographer."

7. He starred in Fergie's music video and made appearances on other hit shows

Other than playing the lead role in TV shows, Ventimiglia has also played the heartthrob love interest in two music videos. He was featured in Fergie's 2006 hit, Big Girls Don't Cry as well as in Priyanka Chopra's single I Can't Make You Love Me. The actor has also had small appearances in Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and She's All That.

8. He is a morning person

Ventimiglia told Coveteur in an interview about his morning routine. "I set two alarms. My first alarm is just alerting me that the second one is coming two minutes later, and then that two-minute-later alarm gives me a 10-minute snooze that maybe I’ll hit once," he said. "But after that, I’m up and at ’em, and I turn it off. Luckily, I sometimes wake up even before my alarm. There’s an internal clock that’s just always going." He also likes to be on time and usually gets a head start on his schedules as well.

9. He was behind the web series Ultradome

Ventimiglia is quite the nerd and took his obsession with pop culture to another level. Back in 2009, he set up the web series Ultradome to settle the most pressing questions between fandoms. "My whole life has been spent engaged with friends in intellectual debate … like whether Captain Kirk is tougher than Spock or if Middle Earth is a more difficult place to live than Tatooine," he said. "With Ultradome, we can bring these debates to the public and settle them in the most logical way possible: through armed combat." He even appeared in the first episode.

10. His charming half-smile is actually a birth defect

One of the unique features of Ventimiglia is his crooked smile. This is something that allowed him to play a younger version of Stallone. But it was also something that prevented him from being selected for roles. "They’d be like: 'Could you stop doing that thing with your mouth where your lip is going down?," he recalls in an interview with PEOPLE. "And I’d be like: 'Hey, I was born that way.' … I mean, look, I can’t get away from it now. It’s who I am, you know? I’ve got a crooked mouth." He explained that he was born with "dead nerves" in his lip that caused his mouth to be turned slightly upwards.
