What Is The Plot Of 'Midnight Mass'?

'Midnight Mass' reflects Mike Flanagan's signature of brooding horror and drama.

The series takes place in Crockett Island, an isolated community plagued by some mysterious sinister force. The story centers around a charming but mysterious priest and a downtrodden young man. Their arrival to the island seems to have deeper connections with the evil force that's inhabiting the neighborhood.

Flanagan took his experiences as an altar boy at New York’s Governors Island and incorporated this into the series.

"As a former altar boy, about to celebrate 3 years of sobriety, it's not hard to see what makes this so personal. The ideas at the root of this show scare me to my core," Flanagan said in a statement

Here is the official synopsis as per Netflix:

"Midnight Mass tells the tale of a small, isolated island community whose existing divisions are amplified by the return of a disgraced young man (Zach Gilford) and the arrival of a charismatic priest (Hamish Linklater). When Father Paul's appearance on Crockett Island coincides with unexplained and seemingly miraculous events, a renewed religious fervor takes hold of the community – but do these miracles come at a price?"
