Melissa McBride Drops Out Of 'The Walking Dead' Spin-Off Series 'Daryl & Carol'

"Relocating to Europe became logistically untenable for Melissa at this time." a statement from AMC announced.

The Walking Dead series is coming to an end after 11 seasons and 12 long years. But fans of the show are not ready to part with the show yet and the producers have already taken that into consideration. Even before the final season could start airing, three spin-offs were announced allowing the fans to be with the show for a while longer. This includes Isle of the Dead featuring Maggie and Negan, an anthology series that will feature individual character backstories, and a Daryl and Carol. There is even talk about a spinoff series centered around Rick and Michonne.

But there has been a change in plans as the Daryl and Carol spin-off will henceforth be only a Daryl spin-off. Melissa McBride who portrays Carol Peletier in the show has decided to exit the spin-off. A statement from AMC Studios said: "Melissa McBride has given life to one of the most interesting, real, human, and popular characters in The Walking Dead Universe. Unfortunately, she is no longer able to participate in the previously announced spinoff focused on the Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier characters, which will be set and filmed in Europe this summer and premiere next year."

The statement continued with the reason for her departure: "Relocating to Europe became logistically untenable for Melissa at this time. We know fans will be disappointed by this news, but The Walking Dead Universe continues to grow and expand in interesting ways and we very much hope to see Carol again in the near future.” Daryl who is portrayed by Norman Reedus will be carrying the project forward. The yet-untitled series will be created by Angela Kang and Scott M. Gimple. It is scheduled to debut in 2023.

"The Walking Dead flagship series has been my creative home for a decade and so it’s bittersweet to bring it to an end, but I could not be more excited to be working with Scott Gimple and AMC to develop a new series for Daryl and Carol,” Kang had stated at the time the series was announced. "Working with Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride has been a highlight of my career and I’m thrilled that we get to keep telling stories together."

"There are ways the story, of course, was going to continue to keep going," Gimple had told Insider. "But it is going to continue to keep going with Daryl and Carol. It's going to be a different show with a different tone, but the story of that corner of The Walking Dead, in some ways, continues to go through them. Angela and I have been working on a story for a while, and there's just a very super interesting story there." The series will now carry on without one of the fan favorites.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter McBride shared: “I’ve always enjoyed working so closely with Norman throughout these many seasons. In playing Carol, and as a viewer of the show, I’ve also long been intrigued with ‘Daryl and Carol,’ and by what so early on between them, even then, felt somehow bound. Their shared history is long, and each’s own personal fight to survive, is even longer — the more obvious aspect of what has kept them close and loyal. But there is also a rather mysterious aspect to their fondness for one another that I enjoy, and their playfulness when the world permits. I’m very curious! Angela has a way of shaking things up in great and unexpected ways. She’s like a kid playing with the dimmer switch! I’m very excited!" Unfortunately, we will not be seeing this chemistry play out on screen.
