Meet the Girl Who Could Be Replacing Johnny Depp in Pirates Of The Caribbean Reboot

Rumors regarding the Pirates of The Caribbean reboot have resurfaced and Disney is reportedly eyeing this girl to take over the coveted lead role for the next installment.

Johnny Depp

Talks about the future of Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean have resurfaced and now we've heard rumors of who will be replacing Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow on the franchise.

The franchise is expected to undergo transition considering the recent state of Johnny Depp's career and relationship. With the current mess in Depp's life and career, people are already anticipating that he's no longer returning.

Just recently, insider Daniel Richtman broke the internet with the scoop regarding the possible future lead character of the franchise.

According to Richtman, Disney is eyeing Karen Gillan to lead the next Pirates of the Caribbean installment! The 32-year-old Scottish actress, who previously landed roles in big projects like Avengers: Endgame and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Jumanji: The Next Level, is said to be the studio's top choice as of the moment!

Karen Gillan

There's speculation that Gillan will be playing the role of Redd, the popular female pirate featured on the Disney park attraction which is also a meet-and-greet character.

As of now, it is not yet clear whether the actress already had formal talks with Disney. Other big projects that Karen Gillan has worked for are Doctor Who and Guardians of the Galaxy.

Previous Pirates of the Caribbean writer Ted Elliot will still pen the script with the help of Craig Mazin- the guy behind the very successful TV series, Chernobyl. The two were reportedly asked to find a fresh new direction for the franchise. Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman will produce while the director is yet to be announced.

“We want to bring in a new energy and vitality. I love the [Pirates] movies, but part of the reason Paul and Rhett are so interesting is that we want to give it a kick in the pants. And that’s what I’ve tasked them with.” Sean Bailey, President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter way back in 2018.

The estimated budget for the film is around $100 M and is set for a theatrical release and not for a Disney+ series.

The Pirates of the Caribbean is one of the most successful franchises in history. The films have a combined revenue of more than $4.5 billion worldwide. But looking at the statistics, it is easy to see that the franchise is going downhill in terms of domestic support.

Its fourth installment, On Stranger's Tides only grossed $241 M in North America while the last installment, Dead Men Tell No Tales, only grossed $172 M.

Looking at the numbers, a fresh new take on the series might just be what's best for the franchise. For sure, some people will still miss the iconic Captain Jack Sparrow though. Several fans are expected to be upset and whoever accepts the big role of leading the reboot surely has to work harder to show that they deserve the spotlight.

Do you think Gillan could catapult the franchise back to its old glory? Is she the perfect choice for you, too?
