When Suicide Squad was released in 2016 it took the world by storm. The DC Comics supervillain team comprised of a star-studded cast including Jared Leto as The Joker, Will Smith as Floyd Lawton / Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Dr. Harleen Quinzel aka Harley Quinn, Cara Delevingne as Dr. June Moone or Enchantress, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.

Now it's Marvel's turn to assemble a supervillain squad of their own in a live-action adaptation. The Marvel equivalent, Thunderbolts movie is currently in development and could be the next big thing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The top-secret Thunderbolts movie is now steaming full speed ahead. Jake Schreier (Robot & Frank, Paper Towns) is set as director for the film with Eric Pearson (Black Widow) set to pen the script with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige producing, reported Deadline. So far, no other detail has been revealed. The plot of the film as well as the characters to be included and the actors that will be playing them is still under wraps. All that we know is that the story will revolve around a group of villains who are sent on missions commissioned by the government. Currently, Marvel has been in touch with certain individuals already part of the MCU to make sure their schedules are open for next summer when the shoot is set to begin.

Speculations are being made currently that the characters that will be included will be Baron Zemo, Yelena Belova, Red Hulk, Ghost, Taskmaster, The Abomination, US Agent, and the Winter Soldier. So far Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova, Hannah John-Kamen's Ghost, Olga Kurylenko's Taskmaster, and Wyatt Russell as US Agent, are among some characters that have already been introduced in the previous films in the MCU. General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross is a charter that will definitely be included as well considering he is the person in the comics who assembles the first team, which explains the name. The actor who will play Thunderbolt is still unconfirmed.

We are almost at the end of Phase Four of the MCU which will be concluding in 2023. There are still a few releases that have already been announced. Thunderbolts will be a part of the next phase that also includes untitled Deadpool, Captain America, and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings sequels. With many films to go, we may just be able to meet the antiheroes who will be a part of Thunderbolts.
