Speculations have been doing the rounds for a while now, about how exactly the X-Men will be introduced into the MCU. And, it seems like they will be taking the help of Thanos' snap to do that.
After the Disney/Fox merger happened, Marvel is finally getting its rights back and we know that at some point, hopefully not in much of a distant future, the X-Men will join the MCU. Fans are already stoked for the likes of Wolverine and Deadpool to exist in the same world as Spider-Man and Captain Marvel. But, the only thing that can be a little tricky is how Marvel will make their appearance seem smooth so that it doesn't seem like the mutants appeared suddenly into a different universe.
The snap of Thanos is something that will be remembered for a long time to come, as it obliterated half of the galaxy’s population. But, now it is believed that this universe-shattering snap might also be Marvel’s method of introducing X-Men characters into the MCU. After the merger was done, a lot of fans question when and how fans might get to see everyone’s favorite X-Men characters appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Kevin Feige, the president of the Marvel Studios said that it might take a while, but a new theory claims that it could be as soon as Marvel’s upcoming film, “The Eternals,” reported a source by We Got This Covered. This movie is said to star A-listers from Hollywood like Angelina Jolie, Keanu Reeves, and Richard Madden and will introduce the Ancient race of immortals into the franchise. The source also mentions that the film will also reveal that the Eternals created the X-Gene.
This seems the most plausible way of how the X-Men will be introduced and will sow the seeds of the eventual X-Men reboot. The Mad Titan's snap will be used as the explanation for the X-gene being activated throughout the globe, thereby effectively creating mutants. But, it also needs to be noted that it has already been explained that the snap has major consequences for the MCU going forward in the upcoming film 'Spiderman: Far From Home'.
In the trailer of this movie, it’s noted that Thanos’ snap weakened the walls between the dimensions, which eventually allowed Mysterio and the Elementals into Earth-616. It seems like a plausible idea that Kevin Feige has already confirmed that Fox-owned Marvel characters will find their way into the MCU down the line and the latest theory if it turns out to be true, will help the X-Men franchise to grow in future.
