‘Love Chunibyo & Other Delusions’ Season 3: Everything We Know So Far

‘Love Chunibyo & Other Delusions’ is one of those wholesome Slice of Life anime you can watch anytime, anywhere.

The anime series is based on Japanese light novel series written by Torako and illustrated by Nozomi Ōsaka. ‘Love Chunibyo & Other Delusions’ follows a wholesome love story between Yūta and Rikka, two high-school students who suffer from their respective Chūnibyo (delusions).

The anime has released two seasons and a film that serves as a direct sequel to the story released in 2018.

There have been numerous claims that the third season of the anime is already under development. But is it true? Here is everything we know.

Will There Be’ Love Chunibyo & Other Delusions’ Season 3?

Until now, there have been numerous rumors on the internet that season 3 is underway. However, there is still no official confirmation from Kyoto Animation or any company related to the production of the anime that season 3 of ‘Love Chunibyo & Other Delusions’ is happening.

The first season of the anime aired in Japan from October 4 and December 19, 2012. The second season premiered in January 2014 and ran through March 2014.

Both seasons aired 12 episodes each. Instead of releasing another new season, the studio decided to conclude the anime by releasing a movie.

The film titled ‘Eiga Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! Take On Me’ premiered in 2018 and provided a seemingly definitive ending to the story. Because of this, a third season now seems unlikely to happen.

However, if you are like those anime characters with unlimited enthusiasm and positivity, there is still hope, albeit the chance is very slim! It is normal for animes to take a long gap before getting renewed. Even popular animes likeBleach’ had to wait for almost a decade before seeing season 17.

The anime also remains among the most popular titles on Crunchyroll. The first season currently holds a 7.72 rating on MyAnimeList, while the second season has a 7.55 rating. In terms of popularity, these numbers seem good. We’ve seen animes with lower ratings but still got renewed.

When Will’ Love Chunibyo & Other Delusions’ Season 3 Release?

The anime is not renewed for season 3 yet, and as mentioned, there’s a high chance that it won’t return anymore.

However, in the unlikely event that the anime gets renewed for season 3, it won’t be here at least until the end of 2024. We will update this article once the anime is renewed.

What Is The Plot Of ‘Love Chunibyo & Other Delusions.’ and What Could Happen in Season 3?

The anime follows Yūta Togashi, a boy who used to suffer “chūnibyō.” “Chūnibyō,” also known as “Eighth-grade syndrome,” is a condition where people believe they possess supernatural powers. Yūta believed he had these powers and called himself the “Dark Flame Master.” As Yūta gets older, he gets ashamed of his delusions. He was intent on starting a new life as he entered high school. But just when he is about to leave his past behind, he meets a delusional girl in his class, Rikka. Knowing that Yūta used to suffer from delusions, too, she becomes interested in him. The previous seasons chronicled the beginning of their love story. This was continued in the anime film ‘Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions! Take on Me’.

In a post-credits scene from the anime film, we see Yūta realizing the depth of his feelings for Rikka. Yūta returns home. Rikka’s new apartment is two floors above his. Rikka climbs down on a rope, while Yūta finally understands that it was everything about her that made him fall in love with her. This was a very moving scene, knowing that Yūta used to get so annoyed and irritated with Rikka when they first met. The experiences they’ve shared throughout the seasons have plastered their feelings for each other.

If the anime still returns for season 3, Yūta and Rikka might still play a significant role. However, since their love story seemingly ended on a good note in the film already, then the new season could potentially introduce a new couple for us to follow.
