Lost In Space is a Netflix sci-fi series set in the near future after an event that threatens human extinction. The story follows the Robinsons, a family of space colonists, whose spaceship goes off course after an attack from an alien robot. The Robinsons, along with other families, crash land on a nearby habitable planet and must now start from scratch on a new planet.
This show was a reboot of the 1965 series of the same name, which was inspired by the 1812 novel The Swiss Family Robinson by Johann David Wyss. The show had a successful run starting in 2018 and was renewed for a second season the following year. In 2020, it was renewed for a third season which was also said to be the final season. But is there a possibility of one more season of the show?
Will Netflix Bring Lost In Space Back For Season 4?
Netflix had confirmed that the third season would be the last one. The showrunners did well in concluding the show and tied a lot of the loose ends together in the end. Zack Estrin had shared a statement that he had always planned for the show to have only three seasons. Taking to Twitter, Estrin stated, “From the beginning, we’ve always viewed this particular story of The Robinsons as a trilogy. A three-part epic family adventure with a clear beginning, middle, and end.”
He went on to add, before the release of the third season, “It’s also worth noting that, with what these characters go through just trying to survive each episode—if anyone deserves to catch their breath before their next mission — it’s Will, Penny, Judy, Maureen, John, Don West, Dr. Smith… and The Robot. And, of course, Debbie the Chicken. So while this chapter of Lost In Space is coming to a rousing conclusion, I’m excited about continuing to explore new stories with my friends at Netflix, and for all of the incredible possibilities that lie ahead.”
So to put it simply, Lost In Space will not be coming back for another season. But fans of the show who want more can look forward to other works coming from Estrin who has signed a multi-year deal with Netflix to create new series. While it was difficult for viewers to say goodbye to the show, the cast is sad to part ways with the show as well.
Mina Sundwall who plays Penny Robinson told Screenrant, “I feel very bittersweet. And I think it’ll be bittersweet for people who love the show to see it. Bitter because it’s over, but sweet because of the way that it ends. I was really satisfied with it.” She added, “I love Penny’s story arc; I love where she ends up. I can’t say very much, but there are a lot of things that I wanted for a long time for her, and that the fans have expressed that they wanted for a long time. I think we’ll all be very pleased. It’ll be bittersweet, but I hope that everybody is satisfied with the ending.”
