Netflix's epic inter-galactic sci-fi adventure series is coming to an end.
This article was recently reviewed and is up to date as of March 1, 2021.
Netflix's reimagining of the 1965 'Lost in Space' has shined the spotlight on the underappreciated sci-fi gem.
The series has earned several accolades for its visual effects and praises from fans for its substantial emotional anchor.
Season 2 left us hanging with a big revelation, but the good news is season 3 is coming to give us all the answers.
Let's talk about all the things you need to know about 'Lost In Space' season 3.
Yes, it is! Netflix renewed 'Lost in Space' for season 3 in March 2020 after three months of waiting. Unfortunately, the good news also bears some sad announcement. The third season is going to be the last one for the series.
Fans were devastated to know that the series is about to get canceled. Few petitions called for the streaming giant to reconsider its decision.
However, showrunner Zack Estrin clarified that the series was meant to be a trilogy from the start.
"From the beginning, we’ve always viewed this particular story of The Robinsons as a trilogy. A 3 part epic family adventure with a clear beginning, middle, and end. It’s also worth noting that, with what these characters go through just trying to survive each episode — if anyone deserves to catch their breath before their next mission — it’s Will, Penny, Judy, Maureen, John, Don West, Dr. Smith… and The Robot. And, of course, Debbie the Chicken. So while this chapter of Lost In Space is coming to a rousing conclusion, I’m excited about continuing to explore new stories with my friends at Netflix, and for all of the incredible possibilities that lie ahead.”

Production status as of March 1, 2021: Post-production
Filming for the final season began on September 9, 2020, and has just recently concluded.
On January 14, 2021, Netflix announced that 'Lost in Space' has wrapped up filming for season 3.
"Season 3 of @lostinspacetv has officially wrapped!" the streamer tweeted along with a behind-the-scenes photo.
The third and final season of 'Lost in Space' will release sometime in 2021. We don't have the exact release date yet, but we're relying on Netflix to announce it soon.
Season 1 premiered on April 13, 2018, and season 2 was released on December 24, 2019. Season 3 has just wrapped up filming, and the post-production will likely take at least 6 months. We're expecting season 3 to be here by the third or 4th quarter of 2021.
Season 2 ended with a big cliffhanger that needs to get addressed in season 3.
After the children escaped the rift aboard the Jupiter Transport, the spaceship ended in an unknown star system. There they saw the Fortuna, the ship that disappeared nearly twenty years ago and was mentioned throughout Lost in Space.
Now... can we talk about this s2 cliffhanger? pic.twitter.com/wKFTIWBdel— Lost In Space on Netflix (@lostinspacetv) March 11, 2020
The Fortuna was commanded by Grant Kelly, Judy's biological father. Does that mean he is alive? Will Netflix recruit the old cast members for the season finale?
Also, what happened to Dr. Smith? She and Scarecrow sacrificed themselves so Judy, Will, Penny, and the children could escape. We didn't see her dead body. Could she still be alive? Meanwhile, what fate awaits Maureen and John, who were last seen in the robot stack? We will have all our answers in season 3.
Season 3 is also likely to bring us to an entirely new planet after the children found themselves in a new star system by the end of season 2. We don't know exactly where yet, but we're pretty sure it will be epic.
Our regular cast members are expected to return for the season finale.
The regular cast members include Molly Parker as Maureen Robinson, Toby Stephens as John Robinson, Maxwell Jenkins as Will Robinson, Taylor Russell as Judy Robinson, Mina Sundwall as Penny Robinson, and Brian Steele as the Robot, among others.
We are also hoping to see Ignacio Serricchio back as Don West.
There is also a chance for Parker Posey to return for her role June Harris / Dr. Smith if she survives the attacks of the invading robots.
We will also see new faces for the final season. They are William Budijanto, Lex Elle, and Charles Vandervaart.
We are still waiting for Netflix to drop the official trailer for 'Lost in Space' Season 3. It will be here a few months from now, that is for sure. While waiting, here is season 2's trailer for you. The original 'Lost in Space' is no longer available on Netflix and instead can now be found on Hulu in the US. However, Netflix's 2018 reimagining is still available on the platform. You may binge-watch two seasons again in the meantime.
